PINEWALKER – “Migration” (English)

So, a debut album for the American band Pinewalker which is entitled “Migration”. One would expect that the theme of the album would focus around the worldwide phenomenon of massive migration in the later years but NO ! “Migration” is dedicated to all those people we have lost to cancer.

Pinewalker (ex-Yeti) decided after a whole 5 years of existence to record their doom-sludge metal and release their first ever studio album , which is a decent enough album if we take into consideration that this is their first effort and the fact that all of them are pretty young . Influenced by bands and artists such as the mighty Crowbar, Down , High on Fire , Grief , Deadbird and more , one would expect the album to have a heavy and strong attitude with enough heavy riffs but also , some softer and more melodic parts. This is exactly what happens with “Migration” ,as there are song like “Burning Earth” and “Self Vs. Self” that are heavier whereas ,others like “Maelstrom” are softer and the band gives more emphasis on the melodies . I think it’s worth mentioning that 3 out of the 5 total members of the band have recorded vocals for different songs of the album , something that offers a variety of sounds on the record , maybe influenced by Mastodon .

So , “Migration” consists of 7 songs and has a total runtime of 44 minutes. It’s actually a very good debut album with all the songs being equally good. However , if someone told me I had to pick one as the best of the album , I would choose “Burning Earth” , but this doesn’t mean that I didn’t like the rest of the songs ! Fans of sludge/doom metal should check out Pinewalker and their debut album ,which is released on the 6th of September , and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed at all !
