Το Rock Overdose και ο Yngve Mortuus, συνομιλούν με τον Bård “Faust” Eithun, πρώην ντράμμερ των Νορβηγών Emperor και Impostor και νυν Scum, Blood Tsunami, Aborym και Mongo Ninja εφ’όλης της ύλης, σχετικά με την μουσική του καριέρα και το παρελθόν του! Παρακάτω ακολουθεί η συνέντευξη στα Αγγλικά και στα Ελληνικά.
Σημείωση: Εδώ θα μου επιτρέψετε να πω, ότι σαν λάτρης του black metal και σαν ντράμμερ, μετά την τιμή που είχα να πάρω συνέντευξη από τον πρώην και πρώτο ντράμμερ των Mayhem, Kjetil Manheim, είναι πραγματικά επίσης τεράστια τιμή μου, που είχα την ευκαιρία να συντάξω και αυτή την συνέντευξη με αυτόν τον ΑΠΙΣΤΕΥΤΟ μουσικό και ντράμμερ! Χωρίς πολλά πολλά λοιπόν, διαβάστε τι μας είπε:

Rockoverdose.gr: Greetings! It’s an honor to have you here with us in Rock Overdose!
Rockoverdose.gr: Let’s begin with Aborym! You released an album called “Psychogrotesque” last year. How is it going?
Bård: Ok, the album is doing well. It didn’t sell as much as Generator obviously as the music and record industry has totally changed the last 5-10 years but overall it sold well for a band that is only a “studio band”. The reactions were good although some people thought it was too experimental maybe. I think the album was a natural follow-up to the Aborym discography. It was darker, dryer and more sterile than Generator, a little harder to get into but as soon as you get it, the record really swallows you.
Rockoverdose.gr: What are the plans for now? Any new recordings on the way?
Bård: Actually I just recorded a two-song 7-inch with Stud Bronson from Battalion/Bombers the other day for a band aptly titled Studfaust!!! The result was four minutes of pure Rock ‘N’ Roll overdose and we hope to have it released pretty soon. This was something different and fun for us old guys to do.
Rockoverdose.gr: On to Blood Tsunami! Your last album “Grand Feast For Vultures”, was released in 2009. I know that it went pretty well! Tell us about it.
Bård: Yeah, that album turned out pretty much like we wanted it to do. Where our debut, “Thrash Metal” lacked something in both production and edge, “Grand Feast For Vultures” was a far harsher, darker and more straight to the core than the debut and therefore we left the band where we wanted when we went into a little hiatus two years ago.
Rockoverdose.gr: Are you going to release a new album? Also, are there any plans for touring and maybe a gig in Greece too?
Bård: Well, the hiatus was partly because we lost our bass player and we were a bit tired from rehearsing twice a week without getting anywhere so we took a well deserved break but we started up again some 6 months ago and finally we found a new bass player and by now we have 4 new songs ready and the band is starting to pulsate again. Candlelight dropped us from our contract so at the time being we have no contract but we are talking with a few labels so time will show. Anyway, we have no hurry and we simply want to make music we are comfortable with and can stand behind. Touring is a bit ahead in the future as for now but we definitely would like to play in Greece one day.
Rockoverdose.gr: Let’s talk about Mongo Ninja now, a thrash/punk metal band, with members from Blood Tsunami! You had 1 release in 2009 and 3 (!!!) in 2010! A lot of material! Why was that?
Bård: Mongo Ninja is almost a social experiment. We wanted to see how far we could push things, both towards the record industry and the audience. Indie Recordings were very supportive and they are not easily scared so they said «hell yes» to the project and released all our album so I got to give them that, haha! Mongo consists of Kristopher Schau, a well known media personality in Norway, 3 members from Blood Tsunami and Mads from Russian Poker Club and we have managed to cut our own path within the Norwegian punk rock/metal scene quite well.
Rockoverdose.gr: Why did you form this project playing thrash metal, when Blood Tsunami is also thrash?
Bård: Originally it was meant to be pure punk but since Pete makes most of the music and since he is a 24/7 thrash metal riff machine the music is sometimes quite near to thrash as well. But really, Mongo has a lot of rock and punk vibes as well so it differ pretty well from Blood Tsunami.
Rockoverdose.gr: Any new stuff coming up from the band?
Bård: We made 4 new songs so far but due to all other bands the people involved have, plus families and jobs it takes time to finish things but we will see. Anyway, we are totally relaxed when it comes to productivity since we allready did 4 albums, haha!
Rockoverdose.gr: Last but not least, you also played in Scum, along with your old fellow, Samoth! You released one very good album, called “Gospels For The Sick” and that was it! Any plans of reviving the band?
Bård: I appreciate that you like it, cool! This was another project where Casey Chaos played a big role in gathering people and it was a one-time project that everyone who participated was clear with the one-off album deal. This is another thing that is impossible to start up again due to geography and people taking different directions. However, it was VERY COOL for me to do another album with Samoth and working with great people like Cosmo, Happy-Tom and Casey. I like the album a lot myself and it is partly underrated in my opinion....in all modesty, haha!!
Rockoverdose.gr: Let’s talk about your past a little. I know that EVERYONE asks you, but I can’t help it! Do you have any contact with Ihsahn or anyone from Emperor nowadays? As we said before, you played with Samoth in Scum!
Bård: It is several years since I spoke to Ihsahn. We simply do very different things and everyone moved on. Nothing dramatic and I am sure when we possibly meet again we will have a good chat. Samoth and I speak from time to time, although not too often which is a pity since he is a jolly good fella...
Rockoverdose.gr: Were/are there any thoughts of playing with Emperor again for an album or live?
Bård: With me, no. I appreciate that people like what I did with Emperor and I appreciate that time myself, but in reality I was with the band a year, recorded two solid albums but after that Trym has been the drummer and it would be strange to take part in that really. Everyone moved on and better let sleeping dogs sleep.
Rockoverdose.gr: Let’s go a little bit earlier, in 1987! What can you remember from your days in Impostor? I think you played in their second and third demo tape! I believe that those where the reckless years!
Bård: Yeah, the second demo and the rehearsal tape that followed, but this was in 1990. It is their “Little Hitler Illusion” demo that is regarded a classic, the later material never gained the same status unfortunately. Anyway, when I moved to Lillehammer in 1990 I made great friends with Bjørn Tore (guitar) and we had a lot of fun. Too bad the band never made it further.
Rockoverdose.gr: You were about to play in Reinkaws, the album that came along with the Rebirth Of Dissection! What happened and you didn’t after all? Jon (R.I.P.) said that you couldn’t follow the band’s beliefs.
Bård: That is a bit complicated. I went to visit Jon in Stockholm in 2003, when he was still in prison. It was good because I could see he was still the same guy who had great sense of humour and enjoyed a beer or ten, but on the other side I saw the people around him had a really bad influence on him and were very fanatic and negative. Hell, I wanted to play in the legendary Dissection, not being a part of a biker gang, I have seen enough of wanna-be tough guys, so I told Jon I couldn't stand behind the MLO philosophy. He understood it and we agreed they should search for another drummer. Nothing dramatic.
Rockoverdose.gr: Taken that Jon died in 2006, did you regret things going this way and not playing in the album?
Bård: Rather the contrary. I am glad I left because I saw where it was heading. I keep the good memories I had from Jon in the early 90ties when we visited each other in Norway and Sweden. That is the Jon I knew. I hope he found what he was looking for. R.I.P.

Rockoverdose.gr: Γεια χαρά! Είναι τιμή μας να σε έχουμε εδώ μαζί μας στο Rock Overdose!
Rockoverdose.gr: Ας ξεκινήσουμε με τους Aborym! Κυκλοφορήσατε την προηγούμενη χρονιά ένα άλμπουμ με τίτλο “Psychogrotesque”. Πως πάει;
Bård: Οκ, το άλμπουμ πηγαίνει καλά. Δεν πούλησε όσο το “Generator” προφανώς, καθώς η μουσική βιομηχανία και η ίδια η μουσική έχει αλλάξει εντελώς τα τελευταία 5-10 χρόνια, αλλά γενικά πούλησε καλά για μια μπάντα που είναι καθαρά “studio”. Οι αντιδράσεις ήταν καλές, παρόλο που κάποιοι το θεώρησαν ίσως πολύ πειραματικό. Νομίζω πως ήταν φυσική συνέχεια στην δισκογραφία των Aborym. Είναι πιο σκοτεινό, πιο στεγνό και πιο συμπαγές από το “Generator”. Πιο δύσκολο να το καταλάβεις, αλλά μόλις το καταφέρεις, ο δίσκος πραγματικά σε “καταπίνει”.
Rockoverdose.gr: Ποια είναι τα σχέδια τώρα; Κάποια νέα ηχογράφηση στα σκαριά;
Bård: Βασικά, μόλις ηχογράφησα ένα 7αρι με 2 κομμάτια με τον Stud Bronson από Battalion/Bombers τις προάλλες, με μια μπάντα που ονομάσαμε απλά Studfaust!!! Το αποτέλεσμα είναι 4 λεπτά αγνού Rock ‘N’ Roll και ελπίζουμε να το κυκλοφορήσουμε πολύ σύντομα. Αυτό ήταν κάτι διαφορετικό και διασκεδαστικό για όλους μας.
Rockoverdose.gr: Και συνεχίζουμε με τους Blood Tsunami! Το τελευταίο σας άλμπουμ με τίτλο “Grand Feast For Vultures”, κυκλοφόρησε το 2009. Ξέρω ότι πήγε πολύ καλά! Πες μας γι’αυτό.
Bård: Ναι το άλμπουμ βγήκε σχεδόν όπως το θέλαμε. Εκεί που το πρώτο μας, το “Thrash Metal” υστερούσε σε παραγωγή και όγκο, το “Grand Feast For Vultures” ήταν λίγο πιο ωμό, σκοτεινό και πιο “στις ρίζες” από το πρώτο, οπότε αφήσαμε τη μπάντα ακριβώς εκεί που θέλαμε όταν πέσαμε σε “λήθαργο” πριν 2 χρόνια.
Rockoverdose.gr: Σκοπεύετε να κυκλοφορήσετε κάποιο νέο άλμπουμ; Επίσης υπάρχουν σχέδια για περιοδεία και ίσως και κάποια συναυλία στην Ελλάδα;
Bård: Βασικά ο “λήθαργος” ήταν κυρίως επειδή χάσαμε τον μπασίστα μας και είμασταν κάπως κουρασμένοι από τις πρόβες 2 φορές την εβδομάδα χωρίς να φτάνουμε κάπου, οπότε πήραμε ένα διάλειμμα και ξεκινήσαμε περίπου πριν 6 μήνες, βρίσκοντας μπασίστα και τώρα έχουμε 4 κομμάτια έτοιμα, καθώς η μπάντα ζει και πάλι. Η Candlelight μα έβγαλε από το συμβόλαιο, οπότε αυτόν τον καιρό είμαστε χωρίς και μιλάμε με μερικές εταιρίες. Ο χρόνος θα δείξει. Τέλος πάντων, δεν βιαζόμαστε και προσπαθούμε να κάνουμε μουσική με την οποία θα είμαστε άνετοι και μπορούμε να σταθούμε πίσω της. Η περιοδεία είναι πιο μακριά στο μέλλον για τώρα, αλλά θα θέλαμε οπωσδήποτε να παίξουμε στην Ελλάδα κάποια στιγμή.
Rockoverdose.gr: Ας μιλήσουμε τώρα για τους Mongo Ninja, μια thrash/punk metal μπάντα, με μέλη των Blood Tsunami! Είχατε 1 κυκλοφορία το 2009 και 3 (!!!) το 2010! Πολύ υλικό! Γιατί έγινε αυτό;
Bård: Οι Mongo Ninja, είναι βασικά ένα κοινωνικό πείραμα. Θέλαμε να δούμε πόσο πολύ μπορούμε να πιέσουμε τα πράγματα, συγχρόνως προς την δισκογραφική και προς τον κόσμο. Η Indie Recordings μας υποστήριξε απόλυτα και δεν φοβούνται εύκολα, οπότε είπαν “Διάολε ΝΑΙ” στο project και κυκλοφόρησε όλα τα άλμπουμ μας, οπότε πρέπει να τους το αναγνωρίσω αυτό, χαχα! Οι Mongo αποτελούνται από τον Kristopher Schau, που είναι πολύ γνωστός στην τηλεόραση στη Νορβηγία, και μέλη των Blood Tsunami και Russian Poker Club. Καταφέραμε να βρούμε τον δικό μας δρόμο μέσα από την Νορβηγική punk rock/metal σκηνή αρκετά καλά.
Rockoverdose.gr: Γιατί φτιάξατε αυτό το project παίζοντας thrash metal, ενώ οι Blood Tsunami παίζουν επίσης thrash;
Bård: Στην αρχή ήταν να βγει καθαρό punk, αλλά από τη στιγμή που ο Pete κάνει σχεδόν όλη την μουσική και είναι μια 24ωρη μηχανή thrash metal riffs, η μουσική είναι κοντά στο thrash. Αλλά ειλικρινά, η μπάντα έχει πολλά rock και punk στοιχεία, οπότε διαφέρει πολύ από τους Blood Tsunami.
Rockoverdose.gr: Υπάρχει κάτι νέο από τη μπάντα;
Bård: Κάναμε 4 νέα κομμάτια μέχρι στιγμής, αλλά λόγω των υπόλοιπων μπαντών που συμμετέχουμε όλοι, συν οικογένειες και δουλειές, παίρνει χρόνο να τα τελειώσουμε όπως καταλαβαίνεις. Πάντως είμαστε πολύ χαλαροί όταν πρόκειται για παραγωγικότητα, αφού έχουμε ήδη 4 άλμπουμ! Χαχα!
Rockoverdose.gr: Τέλος, έπαιξες με τους Scum, μαζί με το παλιό σου φίλο, Samoth! Κυκλοφορήσατε ένα πολύ καλό άλμπουμ, το “Gospels For The Sick” και αυτό ήταν! Υπάρχουν σχέδια για αναβίωση της μπάντας;
Bård: Το εκτιμώ πολύ που σου άρεσε! Αυτό ήταν άλλο ένα project, στο οποίο ο Casey Chaos έπαιξε μεγάλο ρόλο στο να μαζέψει τον κόσμο και ήταν ένα project της μίας φοράς, όπου όσοι συμμετείχαν, ήταν εντάξει απέναντι στο συμβόλαιο του ενός άλμπουμ. Αυτό είναι κάτι αδύνατον να ξαναγίνει, λόγω της γεωγραφίας και καθώς ο καθένας πήρε διαφορετικό δρόμο. Πάντως, ήταν τέλειο για μένα να ξανακάνω ένα άλμπουμ με τον Samoth και να δουλέψω με σπουδαίους ανθρώπους όπως ο Cosmo, Happy-Tom και ο Casey. Το άλμπουμ μου άρεσε πολύ και νομίζω ότι είναι υποτιμημένο… με όλη την ταπεινότητα, χαχα!
Rockoverdose.gr: Ας μιλήσουμε λίγο για το παρελθόν σου. Ξέρω ότι ΟΛΟΙ σε ρωτάνε, αλλά πρέπει να το κάνω! Έχεις επαφές με τον Ihsahn ή κάποιον άλλον από τους Emperor; Όπως είπαμε και πριν, έπαιξες με τον Samoth στους Scum!
Bård: Είναι πολλά χρόνια από τότε που μίλησα με τον Ihsahn. Απλά κάνουμε διαφορετικά πράγματα και όλοι πήγαμε παρακάτω. Τίποτα δραματικό και είμαι σίγουρος ότι αν πιθανόν συναντηθούμε ξανά, θα έχουμε μια ωραία κουβέντα. Με τον Samoth μιλάμε κατά καιρούς, όχι όμως συχνά, κάτι που είναι κρίμα αφού είναι ένας πολύ καλός φιλαράκος…
Rockoverdose.gr: Υπήρχαν/υπάρχουν σκέψεις για να ξαναπαίξεις στους Emperor ξανά για κάποιο άλμπουμ ή σε συναυλία;
Bård: Με μένα όχι. Εκτιμώ που στον κόσμο αρέσει ότι έκανα με τους Emperor, και εκτιμώ και αυτόν τον χρόνο και εγώ ο ίδιος, αλλά στην πραγματικότητα, ήμουν με τη μπάντα για ένα χρόνο, ηχογράφησα 2 πολύ καλά άλμπουμ, αλλά μετά από αυτό, ο ντράμμερ της μπάντας είναι ο Trym και θα ήταν περίεργο να πάρει μέρος σε αυτό. Όλοι προχωρήσαμε παρακάτω και (θα έχανε στα Ελληνικά) “better let sleeping dogs sleep”.
Rockoverdose.gr: Ας πάμε λίγο πιο παλιά, στο 1987! Τι θυμάσαι από τις μέρες σου στους Impostor; Νομίζω ότι έπαιξες στο 2ο και 3ο τους demo! Πιστεύω ότι τότε ήταν τα ανέμελα χρόνια!
Bård: Ναι, στο 2ο demo και στην rehearsal κασσέτα που ακολούθησε, αλλά αυτό ήταν το 1990. Το demo “Little Hitler Illusion”, είναι που θεωρείτε κλασσικό, το επόμενο υλικό δυστυχώς δεν είχε το ίδιο επίπεδο. Τέλος πάντων, όταν μετακόμισα στο Lillehammer το 1990, γίναμε καλοί φίλοι με τον Bjørn Tore (κιθάρα) και περνάγαμε καλά. Κρίμα που η μπάντα δεν τα κατάφερε παρακάτω.
Rockoverdose.gr: Ήταν να παίξεις στο “Reinkaws”, το άλμπουμ που ήρθε με την αναγέννηση των Dissection (Rebirth Of Dissection). Τι έγινε και δεν έπαιξες τελικά; Ο Jon (R.I.P.), είπε ότι δεν μπορούσες να ακολουθήσεις την ιδεολογία της μπάντας.
Bård: Αυτό είναι λίγο μπερδεμένο. Επισκέφτηκα τον Jon στην Στοκχόλμη το 2003, όταν ήταν ακόμα στη φυλακή. Ήταν καλό, γιατί έβλεπα ότι ήταν ακόμα ο ίδιος άνθρωπος με αίσθηση του χιούμορ, που ευχαριστιόταν μια μπύρα, αλλά από την άλλη, είδα τους ανθρώπους που ήταν γύρω του και τον επιρρέαζαν άσχημα και ήταν πολύ φανατικοί και αρνητικοί. Διάολε ήθελα να παίξω στους θρυλικούς Dissection, να μην είμαι μέλος μια συμμορίας, έχω δει αρκετούς δήθεν σκληρούς τύπους, οπότε του είπα ότι δεν μπορούσα να σταθώ πίσω από την φιλοσοφία της MLO (Misanthropic Luciferian Order). Συμφωνήσαμε και καταλήξαμε ότι θα ψάξουν για άλλον ντράμμερ. Τίποτα δραματικό.
Rockoverdose.gr: Δεδομένου ότι ο Jon πέθανε το 2006, έχεις μετανοιώσει που ήρθαν έτσι τα πράγματα και δεν έπαιξες στο άλμπουμ;
Bård: Το ακριβώς αντίθετο. Είμαι χαρούμενος που έφυγα, όταν είδα που πήγαινε το πράγμα. Κρατάω τις καλές αναμνήσεις από τον Jon, από τις αρχές του ’90, που επισκεπτόμασταν ο ένας τον άλλον στην Νορβηγία και την Σουηδία. Αυτός ήταν ο Jon που ήξερα. Ελπίζω να βρήκε αυτό που έψαχνε. R.I.P.
Rockoverdose.gr: Σε ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ που βρήκες τον χρόνο για αυτή τη συνέντευξη! Ήταν τιμή δική μου σαν ντράμμερ και του Rock Overdose το να σε έχουμε εδώ μαζί μας! Τα τελευταία λόγια είναι δικά σου και ελπίζω να σε δούμε σύντομα στην Ελλάδα με μια από τις μπάντες σου! Να είσαι καλά!!!
Bård: Η τιμή είναι δική μου. Ευχαριστώ που μου αφιερώσατε λίγο χώρο. Ελπίζω η Ελλάδα να μην πηγαίνει στο διάολο όπως θέλουν τα μέσα ενημέρωσης να δείχνουν. Είμαι σίγουρος ότι θα επισκεφτώ τη χώρα σας κάποια στιγμή. Παλέψτε για το αληθινό metal και υποστηρίξτε την σκηνή σας… αγοράστε μπλουζάκια, βινύλια και cd. Να περιμένετε συντριπτικό thrash από τους Blood Tsunami και ισοπεδωτικό Rock ‘N’ Roll από τους Studfaust.
