Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka (DECAPITATED) on RockOverdose: “We didn’t show all potencial yet, and I know that potencial is huge”

Decapitated visit Athens, Greece to play "Nihility" in its entirety and this show can't be missed for many reasons!

Mastermind, Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka, answers our interview questions about the latest news of the band, which looks ready to show its huge potencial!

Read below.

RockOverdose: The first question is if almost two years after “Cancer Culture”, you are satisfied with it on the same level as when it came out. What does this album mean for you and your career in general?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): Yes im still satisfy about this album.I love it. I was another mile step in our career and I'm sure this album put decapitated on another level. We play better slots on festivals and more people are on our shows. This album mean to me that I can do better and better songs even getting older.

RockOverdose: What I loved in this album is that it reflects all the obstacles that happened after “Anticult” and it spreads your sound to totally new territories. Was it your goal to sound so pissed and open wide transparently for your feelings, or did it come naturally during the writing process?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): I was pissed of many things during that time.I had very dark time in my personal life after anticult and all this emotions goes straight to some of the songs on CC.Thats for sure. But some songs or riffs got totally different atmosphere. Covid times also inspired this album.

RockOverdose: You had guests on this album that gave something extra on it like Tatiana and Robb. Is it something you would repeat in the future? Why did “Hello Death” and “Iconoclast” demand a second voice in your opinion?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): Those two songs got special moments that I decide to use singing vocals.Thats why. Also I think it was really cool to put different sounding voices into this album,it make everything more magical, more interesting.I was so happy to hear Robb and Tatiana with my riffs.I prof myself that I can do riffs not only for growling but also for people thy can sing melodic lines and it works so well,so good.I think because of those vocals and guest we have album that is special between other death metal albums these days.its more unique. Im sure we gona repeat this in the future.

RockOverdose: You formed the band in a very young age, actually we’re born the same year of 1981. What was the motive for your 15-year old self back then? After all that came your way, that could utterly destroy any band, did you believe you would last that long?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): Music is my biggest passion.I love to play in the band and love to play on guitar. It gives me so much power and it motivate my life to go on since I was young.I find this passion and it still burning, its never stop, even when im in very bad life situation.I hope it will stay as long as possible.

RockOverdose: To be honest, we were all sorry when James left Vader, not knowing he would join you. Then everyone was happy because we knew what he could offer to Decapitated. How much has he helped you as a composer and which is his main skills that the listener may miss while listening to him?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): James is amazing player, one of the best in metal scene these days. As composer he is not helping my much because im doing all music for decapitated. He is creating his parts from my drums I already making to put his musical style to my compositions. Sometimes, he is helping a bit with arrangements too. But he is so important as a band member now. He is amazing performer and live musician, he is a beast.

RockOverdose: I had the luck to see you in 2002 for the first time in Greece with Vader and Krisiun on the tour of “Nihility”, and now you play the whole album in the latest gigs. Do you believe it was the one that established you? Why did you choose this one in particular to play from start to finish? It is most people’s I know favourite album, but is this the only obvious reason?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): There is not really particular reason why we play that album. Its not anniversary or anything like that.We have situation that one of the tour we sopposed to play been canceled and it was last call emergency decision what are we doing now,and someone say lets do whole “Nihility” live 😊 So we did it in UK and it was unbelievable, 8 sold out shows and rest of show packed closed to sold out. Also I didn’t expect that album so killer as whole thing after many years.I'm enjoying playing it live soo much. Give me some much joy to be honest. I think this album was very and maybe the most important for us to established Decapitated name on the international stage of metal. I think so.We been prepared for this session so well and we knew that we have really strong album to realise. Recording session was probably the nicest time in the studio I ever had in my life.I cant wait to jump on stage again and play it.

RockOverdose: What is the current situation with the bassist spot in the band? Do you believe you will have a permanent member this time on the next album? How challenging was it for you to handle the bass duties also on “Cancer Culture”?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): So,we have Pawel on bass and he is in the band since 2012.He got breake because of his personal life but looks that now he is our full time player. Why he is not in the official lineup?Because he is not creating music and he is not recording bass.I record bass and im enough good to do it for decapitated albums so for me doesn’t make sense to give it to him.He is our great friend and he understand it.We have him only for shows,he is live musician and he respect it.He know his role in the band and everything works so well in this scenario. He got also different job so his busy with other things too.

RockOverdose: Though I believe Decapitated’s value was known beforehand, do you believe that being also in Machine Head, raised the level of acceptance and opened some new doors for the band? How easy is to schedule touring commitments between the two bands, and how flexible is for Machine Head also to wait for you fulfill your duty with Decapitated and vice versa?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): For sure I took lots of experiences from being part of Machine Head. Thats for sure. Also it opends some doors for me. If you are in band like Machine Head people start to treating you different and different for you 😊 It was a great adventure but as soon as plans started to cover for both bands I decided to take step out.Now its time only for Decapitated because we have so much plans and time is running fast. So I don’t wana miss anything regarding Decapitated.

RockOverdose: So, speaking of gigs, we will see you soon with Decapitated. What do you remember from your previous Greek visits?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): From Greak visits I remember great weather and awesome people, great show and great times I had here.I don’t know if they wana burn my eyes again. Covid destroy all plans for burn my eyes and only robb know if he is gona continue this or not.

RockOverdose: Many children look up to you as a player of high voltage energy and got to start learning guitar to sound like you. You have a very unique style since day one, which evolves and becomes modern but also maintaining your old-school roots. What would you advise new musicians in general and which is in your opinion your key part as a player?

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): Its simple. If you wana be a guitar player than start to practice.Practise every day and make progress.Keep going no matter what. That all, simple. Its like with everything, sport, games, business. If you wana do something and be good with it than start to do it and do it every day.If you will find your passion that’s the best thing you can have.

RockOverdose: A question that may sound strange, but with all the shit you’ve been through as a band and all your ups and downs so far, would you ever consider publishing your band biography? Apart from loving you since the first album, I cannot think of any other band that faced so much “dark” moments like you.

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED): Well I would consider it of course. We had already so many  lets say advantures, and history that it will be easy to make a book. But still I think this can wait because we are still growing and I have a felling that the best is still on front of us.We didn’t show all potencial yet,and I know that potencial is huge. We working every day to be better and better so I think book can wait. And if someone will do this that I think it will be a could story.

RockOverdose: Last but not least, I would like to thank you very much and wish you all the best with both bands you share your vision. Do you believe the good days of light are ahead for Decapitated and are there any special news you could share with us about Machine Head? Take care and stay safe, see you soon in Athens, hopefully twice.

Wacław "VoggKiełtyka (DECAPITATED):  Good days are only ahead of us.Past doesn’t matter, lets live now. See you soon Athens see you soon! GREECE - Let the metal flow!
