Rock Overdose and Zisis Petkanas have an interesting conversation with DOOMAS singer and bass player Peter Betko.
Rock Overdose: I can’t help but ask how you are dealing with the covid -19 crisis in Slovakia?
Peter Doomas Betko: Hi Zisis. Corona is destroying everything, bands, concerts, festivals and of course- fans. But health is on the first place so we try to be safe. Slovakia managed first wave of Covid 19 quite good but second wave destroyed us. Almost everything is closed or restricted. I think you have also problems as do we.
Rock Overdose: As a musician and as an orgnaniser of Gothoom festival what can you speculate on how this is going to turn out ?
Peter Doomas Betko: With my band Doomas, we are moving second tour to the next year 2021 and still i tis not sure i fit will happen at all. Gothoom festival has hard time but that is the same with all festivals in the Europe. Noone can plan and future is not bright. But we have great fans, who supported us and i believe that Gothoom 2021 will happen. We are preparing everything as usual as every year but noone can predict what will be. I would like to make Winter Gothoom festival which would be in February. I invited Hate, Root, Hypnos and also Rotting Christ so we will see if until that date, vaccine will be available.
Rock Overdose: Could you say a few words for Doomas ?
Peter Doomas Betko: Doomas is a doom metal band from Slovakia. We play almost 14 years, 3 albums, 2 EPs and nex year we are going to release our new CD. We play many concerts and also on festivals across all Europe and we love metal. Currently, we have inspiration in Lovecraft’s dark Ctulhu which was in last EP Portal and our new album will be about this mythical creature. All info you will find on ww.doomas.com
Rock Overdose: After watching both videos(‚Portal‘ and ‚Forlorn‘ ) I was very much impressed by the quality of both sound and music . Would you like to tell us where were they shot?
Peter Doomas Betko: Thank you and i am glad that you like them. ‘Forlorn’ is from album “LaMuerte“ and is quite controversial. Lots of blood, worms and dark places, that is Doomas. Clip was shot in my garden. We love dark atmosphere so connect music with videopresentation and result is ‘Forlorn’. ‘Portal’ is a new way for Doomas and a new direction for our music. Every album is pushing us somewhere else and today we all in band are influenced with Cthulhu. Our new album will be full of this creature. Also we want build new scene with Cthulhu on our concerts, so we are excited to see how it will look.
Rock Overdose: What are your plans for the future ? Ιs the covid -19 crisis holding them back ?
Peter Doomas Betko: We are now focusing on training, recording of a new songs, preparing scene and everything for live concerts. On spring 2020 we had to move our tour to spring 2021 and also tour with band Hypnos and Made by Zero. Our main plans are now finding new publisher with distribution around the world and make a new album. These are the mains and we will see what.
Rock Overdose: Have you any friends in Greece?
Peter Doomas Betko: Yes i have many friends in Greece and also close family, who lives in Athens. I also gladly invite greek bands to our festival Gothoom and from there i have many friends, from bands and fans. Some of my great friends are Lefteris from Womb of Maggots, Sakis from Rotting Christ and Christos from SepticFlesh. You have a great metal scene and even better bands. I hope we will have an opportunity to come to play to Greece.
Rock Overdose: We wish to see you up close in the future . You are welcome to perform in Kastoria , in northern Greece.
