O lead κιθαρίστας των Metallica, Kirk Hammett αποκάλυψε στο Mojo πως αυτός και ο frontman της μπάντας, James Hetfield, δακρύσανε κατά την διάρκεια των sessions για το επερχόμενο άλμπουμ-συνεργασία με τον Lou Reed, το "Lulu"". Ο Hammett πρόσθεσε: "Ο Reed κατάφερε να κάνει και τους δύο κιθαρίστες των Metallica να ξεσπάσουν έτσι, απλά με τους απίστευτα ποιητικούς στίχους του".
Ο πατέρας του James Hetfield εγκατέλειψε την οικογένεια όταν ο James ήταν μόλις 13 χρονών, και είναι μια εμπειρία που ο James έχει αναλύσει σε ένα νέο ντοκιμαντέρ που λέγεται "Absent".
