Ο Δημήτρης Κεχρής μίλησε πρόσφατα, για λογαριασμό του Rock Οverdose με τον Thor Anders Myhren (Destructhor), κιθαρίστα των extreme metallers MORBID ANGEL, οι οποίοι πρόσφατα κυκλοφόρησαν τη νέα τους δουλειά με τίτλο "lllud Divinum Insanus".

-Rock Οverdose: We all know that a new album requires really hard work and creativity. Do you think that “Illud Divinum Insanus” is a complicated and creative album and as a result, is that the reason it took you so long to release it or you just didn’t want to rush because you didn’t want to release an album you will not be satisfied with?
-Destructhor: It is for sure a very different album! Wouldn`t say complicated, but creative yes, regarding all the stuff that is on the record. Hard to say why it took so long, I mean one thing is the fact I have only been in the band for three years so I really can`t speak for all those years. But anyway, sometimes things for different reasons can be a lot delayed. It is a long process to create an album, that is for sure.
-Rock Οverdose: Is teamwork important for Morbid Angel or everyone “stands on one’s shoulders”?
-Destructhor: Teamwork is very important in Morbid Angel. I mean, in a band with strong individuals musically, teamwork can make wonders. In Morbid Angel Me ( Destructhor), Trey and David has all contributed with songwriting on the last record. Trey did the main part of the songs and Me and David both have a couple of songs each. And David is behind the lyrics, of course. Tim have come up with a lot of the ideas for the drumming on the album, which did turn out great I have to say.
-Rock Οverdose: How are the things going with Season of Mist? Are you satisfied with the treatment you have until now from that company?
-Destructhor: Abolutely! Season of Mist is a fine label, they have some good names in their camp and they have put a lot of effort into Morbid Angel. They have really been going for it promotion wise. Also very nice people in the stab. It has been a sweet ride so far!
-Rock Οverdose: Morbid Angel is an extreme band with extreme music and extreme attitude. Do you all live respectively like that in your everyday life?
-Destructhor: Music definitely reflects the composer. With me, I am very fascinated by the powers of the extreme. The Darkside of life has so much interesting to offer. The Dark, sick and disturbed makes great Art! Darkness is beautiful. But it is very important to know the fact that this is something I use and create through musical/ Artistic expressions. It lives in me through the Art. It is a hell of a way to live out the beast in you, to let the aggressive one inside loose in a highly positive way which is very constructive for body and soul. A lot of narrow minded people think what we do is very destructive, but the fact is the opposite.
-Rock Οverdose: "I Am Morbid": One of the most easy-to-listen songs you ever wrote but on the other hand, a really great song! Is that Morbid Angel’s new anthem?
-Destructhor: Well, I think the album got several quality songs which deserves the same attention sort of speak, but that song definitely got the “ big arena “ kind of feeling to it. This was also intentional with the song, which by the way, was written by David. It is a catchy easy listening song, so I can understand people will see this as an anthem. But then again, Morbid Angel is a sick and twisted extreme metal band and there are several of those songs on the album that I think represent Morbid just as much.
-Rock Οverdose: No offence, but, do you think that a Box Set like that one (which I find amazing) has a place in the death metal scene?
-Destructhor: Why wouldn`t it? Come on, as you say yourself it is amazing. We all (the band) saw that box for the first time at Hellfest in France. It`s fucking awesome! We are all very pleased with it. It contains amongst others some merch, the “ Nevermore “ single, candlelight, incense and so on. It is quite big for sure. So even if it can seem a little bit exaggerated , it is a cool and new kind of specialty for those Morbid Angel fans who might find this interesting to be in possession of. I know I got mine!
Season of Mist did a great job on it.
-Rock Οverdose: Pete (Sandoval) was a great and successful drummer. How do you feel now, with Tim (Yeung) behind the drum kit?
-Destructhor: First of all, yes, Pete is a great drummer, and I wish him all the best for the future thinking about his back surgery as well as with his career. I have had some awesome time with him in the band, social and performing wise.
With Tim it also works out just great! With his more machinery like kind of playing, he adds a different vibe to the music. He`s got a very powerful way of drumming and he is very technical. An extremely talented guy. He really makes it fast and furious. He is also a very professional and good natured person. We are very pleased with having him in the band.
-Rock Οverdose: What music do you hear nowadays? Do you think that the new metal bands has something to give to the audience or, in your opinion, Metal is about to “die” in a way?
-Destructhor: Metal is definitely not dying! It`s in constant change with all different types of genres and so on, but the brutality of metal will always exist. And there are some really good bands out there. I`ll give you the fact that I more often hear something not interesting than the other way around, caused by the overflow of bands out there. But that does not mean there are no bands offering anything nowadays, cause it is. Me personally love the fast stuff, and do enjoy the new kind of “contest” in how to push limits within speed combined with technical hellriffing. It is so energetic and got so much expressions and attitude. Bands like Nile or Origin are fantastic examples. I also do enjoy other types of music, both metal and non metal, but there are no doubt metal is my grand passion. Once metal was born it was meant to live forever!

-Rock Οverdose: Ένα άλμπουμ απαιτεί σκληρή δουλειά και δημιουργικότητα. Πιστεύεις πως το “Illud Divinum Insanus” είναι ένα πολύπλοκο και δημιουργικό άλμπουμ? Για αυτό τον λόγο σας πήρε τόσο καιρό για να το κυκλοφορήσετε ή δεν θέλατε να βιαστείτε βγάζοντας ένα άλμπουμ με το οποίο δεν θα ήσασταν πλήρως ικανοποιημένοι?
-Destructhor: Σίγουρα είναι ένα πολύ διαφορετικό άλμπουμ! Δεν θα το χαρακτήριζα “περίπλοκο”, αλλά σίγουρα δημιουργικό όσον αφορά το περιεχόμενό του. Δύσκολο να απαντήσω το γιατί πήρε τόσο καιρό. Το γεγονός είναι πως είμαι στην μπάντα μόνο τρία χρόνια, οπότε δεν μπορώ να μιλήσω για όλα τα προηγούμενα. Τέλος πάντων, κάποια πράγματα, για διαφορετικούς λόγους, μπορούν να καθυστερήσουν πολύ. Το σίγουρο πάντως, είναι πως το να δημιουργήσεις ένα άλμπουμ, απαιτεί μεγάλες διαδικασίες.
-Rock Οverdose: Η ομαδικότητα είναι σημαντική στους Morbid Angel ή τα πάντα στηρίζονται σε κάποιον?
-Destructhor: Η ομαδικότητα είναι πολύ σημαντική στους Morbid Angel. Σε μια μπάντα με ισχυρές ξεχωριστές μουσικές προσωπικότητες, η ομαδικότητα μπορεί να κάνει θαύματα. Στους Morbid Angel εγώ, ο Trey και ο David συνεισφέραμε στο γράψιμο για τον δίσκο. Ο Trey έφτιαξε τα βασικά κομμάτια και εγώ με τον David έχουμε από δύο κομμάτια ο καθένας. Και οι στίχοι είναι του David, προφανώς. Ο Tim είχε πολλές ιδέες πάνω στο drumming για το άλμπουμ, τα οποία αποδείχτηκαν πολύ ωραία, μπορώ να πω.
-Rock Οverdose: Πως είναι τα πράγματα με την Season Of Mist? Είστε ικανοποιημένοι με την αντιμετώπιση που έχετε μέχρι τώρα από την εταιρία?
-Destructhor: Απολύτως! Η Season Of Mist είναι μια πολύ καλή δισκογραφική, έχουν κάποια καλά ονόματα στο roster τους (σ.σ. “camp” είπε, για την ακρίβεια) και έχουν κάνει πολύ προσπάθεια για τους Morbid Angel. Χειρίζονται πολύ σοφά το θέμα του promotion. Επίσης, είναι και πολύ καλοί άνθρωποι. Είναι πολύ ωραία, μέχρι τώρα!
-Rock Οverdose: Οι Morbid Angel είναι μια extreme μπάντα με extreme μουσική και στάση γενικώς. Όλοι ζείτε με έναν αντίστοιχο τρόπο στην καθημερινή σας ζωή?
-Destructhor: Η μουσική εννοείται πως αντικατοπτρίζει τον συνθέτη. Προσωπικά, έχω πολύ γοητευμένος από τις “δυνάμεις” του να φτάνεις στα άκρα. Η σκοτεινή πλευρά της ζωής έχει πολλά ενδιαφέροντα να προσφέρει. Το Σκοτάδι, τρελό και “διαταραγμένο”, δίνει έναυσμα στην τέχνη (σ.σ. “makes great Art” συγκεκριμένα). Το Σκοτάδι είναι πανέμορφο. Μα είναι πολύ σημαντικό να ξέρεις το γεγονός πως είναι κάτι που το χρησιμοποιώ για μουσικές/καλλιτεχνικές εκφράσεις. Ζει μέσα μου διαμέσου της Τέχνης. Είναι γενικώς μια “κόλαση” κατά έναν τρόπο, το να αφήνεις έξω το “θηρίο” που βρίσκεται μέσα σου, να αφήσεις την επιθετικότητά σου να βγει χαλαρά σε έναν εξαιρετικά θετικό τρόπο που είναι πολύ εποικοδομητικός για το σώμα και την ψυχή σου. Πολλοί στενόμυαλοι άνθρωποι, νομίζουν πως αυτό που κάνουμε είναι καταστρεπτικό, αλλά συμβαίνει το ανάποδο.
-Rock Οverdose: "I Am Morbid": Ένα από τα πιο easy-to-listen τραγούδια που έχετε γράψει ποτέ αλλά από την άλλη μεριά, ένα εξαιρετικά καλό τραγούδι! Είναι ο νέος ύμνος των Morbid Angel?
-Destructhor: Πιστεύω πως το άλμπουμ έχει πολλά ποιοτικά τραγούδια που αξίζουν την ίδια προσοχή αλλά αυτό το τραγούδι είναι πραγματικά για “μεγάλες αρένες”. Αυτό συνέβη εκ προθέσεως, που παρεμπίπτοντος, γράφτηκε από τον David. Είναι ένα catchy τραγούδι, οπότε καταλαβαίνω πως ο κόσμος θα το δει σαν ύμνο. Αλλά ξανά, οι Morbid Angel είναι ένα sick and twisted extreme metal band (σ.σ. αμετάφραστο) και υπάρχουν αρκετά τραγούδια στο άλμπουμ που εκπροσωπούν τους Morbid Angel το ίδιο.
-Rock Οverdose: Χωρίς παρεξήγηση, πιστεύεις πως ένα Box Set σαν αυτό (που κατά τ’ άλλα, βρίσκω εκπληκτικό) έχει θέση στην death metal σκηνή?
-Destructhor: Γιατί όχι? Έλα τώρα, από μόνος σου είπες πως το βρίσκεις εκπληκτικό. Όλοι στην μπάντα είδαμε για πρώτη φορά το κουτί στο Hellfest της Γαλλίας. It’s fucking awesome! Είμαστε όλοι πολύ ευχαριστημένοι με αυτό. Περιέχει μεταξύ άλλων, το “Nevermore” single, ένα κερί, “θυμίαμα” και άλλα. Σίγουρα είναι κάπως μεγάλο. Ακόμα κι αν φαίνεται λίγο υπερβολικό, είναι ένα ωραίο και νέο “καλούδι” για τους οπαδούς των Morbid Angel που μπορεί να θέλουν να το έχουν στην συλλογή τους. Ξέρω πάντως, πως το δικό μου το πήρα! Η Season Of Mist έκανε πολύ καλή δουλειά!
-Rock Οverdose: Ο Pete (Sandoval) ήταν ένας πολύ καλός και επιτυχημένος ντράμερ. Πως νοιώθεις τώρα, με τον Tim (Yeung) πίσω από το drum kit?
-Destructhor: Πρώτα απ’ όλα, ναι, ο Pete είναι ένας σπουδαίος ντράμερ και του εύχομαι τα καλύτερα για το μέλλον του, σκεπτόμενος την εγχείρηση στην πλάτη καθώς και για την καριέρα του. Είχα μια τέλεια περίοδο μαζί του στην μπάντα, κοινωνικός και ενεργεί σκεπτόμενος. Με τον Tim, επίσης λειτουργεί πολύ καλά! Με τον μηχανικό τρόπο που παίζει, προσδίδει κάτι το διαφορετικό στην μουσική. Έχει ένα πολύ καλό τρόπο παιξίματος και είναι πολύ τεχνικός. Υπερβολλικά ταλαντούχος. He really makes it fast and furious. Είναι επίσης ένα πολύ καλός επαγγελματίας και χαρακτήρας. Είμαστε πολύ ευχαριστημένοι με το να τον έχουμε στην μπάντα.
-Rock Οverdose: Τι μουσική ακούς αυτό τον καιρό? Πιστεύεις πως οι νέες metal μπάντες έχουν να προσφέρουν κάτι στο κοινό ή κατά την γνώμη σου, το Metal έχει ξεκινήσει να “πεθαίνει”?
-Destructhor: To Metal εννοείται πως δεν πεθαίνει! Βρίσκεται σε συνεχή αλλαγή με όλους τους διαφορετικούς τύπους ειδών, αλλά αυτή η “κτηνωδία” στο Metal πάντα θα υπάρχει. Και υπάρχουν κάποιες πολύ καλές μπάντες εκεί έξω. Είναι γεγονός πως ακούω περισσότερα μη-ενδιαφέροντα πράγματα παρά το αντίθετο, εξαιτίας της υπερπροσφοράς από μπάντες. Αλλά αυτό δεν σημαίνει πως δεν υπάρχουν πλέον μπάντες που να έχουν να προσφέρουν κάτι. Υπάρχουν. Προσωπικά, λατρεύω τα γρήγορα κομμάτια, και απολαμβάνω το νέο είδος “διαγωνισμού” στο πως θα υπερβούν τα όρια ταχύτητας σε συνδυασμό με το τεχνικό hellriffing. Είναι τόσο ενεργητικό και έχει πολλές εκφράσεις και διαθέσεις. Μπάντες όπως οι Nile ή οι Origin είναι φανταστικά παραδείγματα. Επίσης απολαμβάνω άλλα είδη μουσικής, είτε είναι metal είτε όχι, αλλά δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία πως το metal είναι το μεγάλο πάθος μου. Once metal was born it was meant to live forever!
