Fan Q&A With Arch Enemy

Here are the questions that Greek and Cypriot fans asked:
1. Your new album "Khaos Legions" will be released on May 30th. Also, from what we know, you have released a video clip from this album.
Could you give us more info about this and are there a lot of differences from your previous releases?

Michael Amott – Well, to me ears the new “Khaos Legions” album is musically a deeper and more intricate album than any of its predecessors! The production and mix is most likely the most crushing one we’ve had as a band too. We really put a lot of work into creating this piece of art and we are very proud of it. The first video from the new album is “Yesterday Is Dead And Gone”, can be watched online here:
2. As we know, GUS G was a touring guitarist (2005) with the band.
Could you tell us about this co-operation and if you know any other Greek bands or musicians?
(Ioannis Theodoridis)
Michael Amott – I’ve known Gus G since he spent time in Sweden when he was playing in the Gothenburg Metal scene. It’s over 10 years ago now that we first met. When we had the situation in 2005 when we needed a guitarplayer for the “Ozzfest” US tour we contacted Gus and he agreed to do it. We are always grateful for that as he made it possible for us to tour at that time! It was a strange period for the band on a whole, but we felt comfortable playing with Gus, it was fun. Other Greek bands I know of are Rotting Christ and of course Firewind. Also some 60’s/70’s stuff like Socrates Drank The Conium and Aphrodite's Child.
3. What do you think defines Arch Enemy in contrast to other bands of the same genre and what are your views on the fact that Arch Enemy has inspired several other female fronted groups to emerge? (Stelios Pitsillides)
Michael Amott – We concentrate on writing strong material and playing powerful live concerts. That is our main focus as a band. We don’t really see many bands that are doing exactly what we do musically right now. Maybe there are bands that are inspired by Arch Enemy - and if so, that is of course a great compliment!
4. Some people have referred to the band as 'the band for those who cannot stand real death metal'. What is your comment on this statement?

Michael Amott – We have never, ever claimed to be a Death Metal band, so that statement is quite uneducated and ridiculous.
5. Which Arch Enemy album do you feel characterizes you most? (Kanaris Keramaris)
Michael Amott – The new one of course, “Khaos Legions!”
6. We are waiting to see you in Cyprus at the MetaLmorphosiS Open Air Festival in July. What do you expect from Cypriot and Greek metal fans and what are your feelings playing for the first time in Cyprus? (Stavros H'petrou)
Michael Amott – We’ve played mainland Greece a few times and we have always enjoyed that atmosphere very much. If Cyprus is anything like that, it will be killer!
7. Will you perform tracks from “Khaos Legions”along with older tracks in your upcoming live performances?(Marios Ioannou)
Michael Amott – It will be a good and balanced mix of older and new songs!
8. Is there a song that is considered "dear'' by your side, and you tend to perform it in every live?

Michael Amott – We have few songs like that… “Ravenous”, “Nemesis”, “We Will Rise”… If we don’t play these live, I think our fans would be disappointed? I personally like playing all our songs – they’re all fun to play, in one way or another.
9. Would you like to leave a message to your fans in Greece and Cyprus?
Michael Amott – All I want to say is thank you for the amazing support over the years and we look forward to seeing you when Arch Enemy plays Cyprus in July or in Athens and Thessaloniki in January 2012!

Michael Amott - Για εμένα προσωπικά το “Khaos Legions” είναι μουσικά ένας βαθύτερος και πιο πολύπλοκος δίσκος σε σχέση με οποιονδήποτε από τους προκατόχους του. Η παραγωγή και η μίξη είναι πιθανότατα οι πιο δυνατές που είχαμε ποτέ. Πραγματικά, δουλέψαμε πέρα πολύ για να δημιουργήσουμε αυτό το πόνημα μας και έιμαστε πολύ περήφανοι για αυτό. 2. Όπως γνωρίζουμε ο Gus G περίοδευσε με το συγκρότημα. Θα μπορούσες να μας πεις περισσότερα για αυτή τη συνεργασία και αν γνωρίζεις άλλα ελληνικά συγκροτήματα ή μουσικούς;(Ioannis Theodoridis)
Michael Amott - Γνώριζα τον Gus G από τον καιρό που ζούσε στη Σουηδία και ήταν αναμεμειγμένος με τη σκηνή του Goteborg. Πάνε 10 χρόνια από όταν πρωτογνωριστήκαμε. Όταν το 2005 χρειαζόμαστε ένα κιθαρίστα για την αμερικάνικη ”Ozzfest” περιοδεία επικοινωνήσαμε και συμφώνησε να μας βοηθήσει και του είμαστε πολύ ευγνώμονες για αυτό. Ήταν μια περίεργη περίοδος για το συγκρότημα, αλλά νιώθαμε άνετα παίζοντας με τον Gus. Από ελληνικές μπάντς γνωρίζω τους Roting Christ και φυσικά τους Firewind. Επίσης κάποια πράγματα από τις δεκαετίες 60'/70' όπως οι Socrates Drank The Conium και οι Aphrodite's Child.
3. Τι πιστεύεις ξεχωρίζει τους Arch Enemy από άλλες μπάντες του ίδιου ύφους και πως βλέπεις το γεγονός ότι έχετε εμπνεύσει τη δημιουργία αρκετών συγκροτημάτων με γυναίκα πίσω από το μικρόφωνο; (Stelios Pitsillides)
Michael Amott – Συγκεντρωνόμαστε στο να γράφουμε δυνατό υλικό και να δίνουμε συναυλίες γεμάτες ένταση. Εκεί εστιάζουμε. Πραγματικά, δε βλέπουμε πολλές μπάντες να κάνουν αυτό που κάνουμε εμείς αυτή τη στιγμή. Ίσως να υπάρχουν συγκροτήματα που εμπνέονται από τους Arch Enemy, αν είναι έτσι τότε είναι μια τεράστια φιλοφρόνηση για μας.
4. Κάποιοι σας έχουν χαρακτηρίσει ως συγκρότημα για αυτούς που δε μπορούν να αντέξουν να ακούσουν “κανονικό” death metal. Πως το σχολιάζεις;(Giorgos Fytrakis)
Michael Amott - Ποτέ δεν ισχυριστήκαμε πως παίζουμε death metal, αυτή η δήλωση είναι άσχετη και γελοία.
5. Ποιος δίσκος σας πιστεύεις ότι σας χαρακτηρίζει περισσότερο; (Kanaris Keramaris)
Michael Amott – Το “Khaos Legions” φυσικά!
6. Περιμένουμε να σας δούμε στην Κύπρο στο MetaLmorphosiS Open Air Festival τον Ιούλιο. Τι περιμένεις από το κυπριακό και το ελληνικό κοινό σας και πως νιώθετε που παίζετε για πρώτη φορά στην κύπρο;(Stavros H'petrou)
Michael Amott – Έχουμε παίξει στην Ελλάδα πολλές φορές και πάντα μας γοήτευε η ατμόσφαιρα. Αν η κύπρος είναι κι αυτή έτσι, θα περάσουμε εκπληκτικά!
7. Θα παίξετε κομμάτια από το “Khaos Legions” μαζί με παλαιότερα στις επερχόμενες συναυλίες σας;(Marios Ioannou)
Michael Amott – Θα είναι μια καλή και ισορροπήμενη μίξη παλαιών και νέων κομματιών!
8. Έχετε κάποια αγαπημένα κομμάτια, που συνηθίζετε να τα παίζετε σχεδόν σε κάθε συναυλία;

Michael Amott – Ναι, έχουμε μερικά. Τα “Ravenous”, “Nemesis”, “We Will Rise”. Αν δεν τα παίξουμε, πιστεύω ότι το κοινό μας θα δυσαρεστηθεί. Προσωπικά μ'αρέσει να παίζω όλα τα κομμάτια μας.
9. Θα ήθελες να αφήσεις ένα μήνυμα για το ελληνικό και κυπριακό κοινό σας;
Michael Amott – Θέλω να σας ευχαριστήσω για την εκπληκτική στήριξη σας όλα αυτά τα χρόνια και ανυπομονούμε να σας δουμε όταν θα παίξουμε στην κύπρο τον Ιούλιο και σε Αθήνα και θεσσαλονίκη τον Ιανουάριο του 2012!
