Interview with Glam, the singer of WIG WAM for Rock Overdose: “Nowadays the bands have more power and freedom to do whatever they like”

Rockoverdose.gr, talked with Glam, the singer of WIG WAM about their new album entitled "Wall Street". Below you can read what he told us:

Rockoverdose.gr: Hi, welcome to Rock Overdose!  How are you these days?

Glam: Hi there! I’m fine and busy having the greatest time.

Rockoverdose.gr: Now that your brand new CD, “Wall Street”, is complete how do you feel about it? Are you satisfied with the outcome?

Glam: You bet! WALL STREET became excactly the album that we wanted to make. It has all the WIG WAM elements and flavors AND MORE. On this album we set our selves free to write and record what ever felt natural. Just the essence of the four of us you know. Flash, our bass player has also contributed a lot more than on the previous albums. And you’ll hear that on songs like «Victory Is Sweet» and «One Millions Enemies».

Rockoverdose.gr: Tell us with who you worked your new album?

Glam: Well, we more or less worked as a band. The four of us jaming and record, you know. Teeny produced the album and we all contributed as excecutive producers. Some songs were penned by the four of us and Flash, teeny and me delivered songs we had written seperatly. Then «tried them on» in the rehearsal room after picking songs from eachothers demos. My songs were basicly written by me and a songwriter/producer friend of mine, Tommy Berre, that I co-write with both for my solo stuff, Wig Wam and other artists. We also wrote «Rocket Through My Heart» on «Non Stop Rock’n Roll», and he contributed on my solo album «GLAMunition».

Rockoverdose.gr: Are you planning a tour for promoting your new work?

Glam: No, not this time. These days bands release albums to get out on the road to earn money. We thought we’d let the album speak for itself this time. We’re damn proud of “WALL STREET”. We didn’t want to put any pressure on ourselves like we’ve done on our previous albums, having a release deadline to make sure the album was out before going on tour. This time we didn’t give our management any clues about when the album would be finished, so they couldn’t make any touring plans. Which is exactly how we wanted it to be. We have another project in the making that we focus on rather than spending the summer in a nightliner.

Rockoverdose.gr: Let’s go some years back. In 2005 you participated in the Eurovision Song Contest and gone pretty well. Does that participation helped your career?

Glam: Sure it did! Representing Norway in such a big event as Eurovision Song Contest, being a hard rock act, was quite unusual. We actually brought hard rock to the Eurovision, and Lordi thanked us personally the year after, for paving the way for a band like them in the competition. We didn’t sell out or change anything to fit in with the Eurovision show. We simply brought our own style to the masses, and it made a major impact on our carreer.

Rockoverdose.gr: Could you please tell me how do you feel 7 years after?

Glam: We definitely don’t regret being on that show. 7 years later we understand how important that event was to get our act out there. Even though it also made a lot of potential followers disrespect us. But HEY! That’s their loss ha ha...

Rockoverdose.gr: Tell us about the song that has become your anthem.”In my Dreams”. Were you involved in the writing of it ?

Glam: After the massive success of participating in the Norwegian Eurovision song contest in 2004 with “Crazy Things”, which put us in the spotlight in Norway.Since the Norwegian Broadcasting thought we brought something fresh and cool to the competition we were invited to participate in 2005 too. But this time we were given full freedom to pick whatever song we’d like. So Teeny wrote “In My Dreams” and I wrote “A Rock’n Roll Girl Like You”, that we picked between. We all thought “In My Dreams” had the potential. What I disliked though, was that the song started with a guitar intro that is pretty similar to the middle eight guitar riff, and the song had a different build up that now. So I suggested that we’d start with the chorus and re-arrange it a bit. And we changed the title from “Fantasy” to “In My Dreams”. But all the elements was written by Teeny, and it’s his baby.

Rockoverdose.gr: Είχατε Do you get decent support from the Norwegian audiences?

Glam: We’re a household name here in Norway and we’re treated like celebrities.

Rockoverdose.gr: What is your opinnion about the music scene nowdays?

Glam: Nowadays the bands have more power and freedom to do whatever they like. Less men in suits to decide what the band should be all about, and easier to distribute. It’s sad though, that albums don’t sell as good as just 10 years ago. Album sales are on a downhill. But at the same time the performers that can hit it LIVE are the ones that will survive these times of change. You simply can’t make a living if you don’t play live.

Rockoverdose.gr: Is there something else you would like to anounce?

Glam: Can’t wait to reveil our next project ha ha I think you’ll be quite surprised. You know, we like to take chances and try new things. To challenge ourselves and make sure that we have a good time EVERY time!

Rockoverdose.gr: Any closing words for your Greek audience?

Glam: We’ll see you in 2013!!!! And say hello to the fans that made our gigs in Greece sooo special to us!
I also like to add that we really hope for your country to get through these though economic times. You deserve it!!!

ROCK ON GREECE!!!!
