George Gourgaris of Greece's Rock Overdose music portal, conducted an interview with Graig Walker about his solo album, Archive, his forthcoming shows in Greece and many more interesting things. Enjoy the interview below:
Rockoverdose : Hello Craig, welcome to Rockoverdose.gr and thank you for accepting the invitation for this interview.First of all, would you like to give us the current status of your career ? What are you doing this period?
Craig Walker : Hello there nice to meet you! I'm currently working on my new band Mineral..we are almost finished our debut album and hope to have it released later in the year.It's the first time i've been in a band since my Archive days and i'm really excited by it and also really happy to be in a band again..i missed it.The band is myself and a guy/girl from Paris.I'm also working on music for films.
Rockoverdose : "Siamese" was your first solo album. How has the response been so far from fans & music press?
Craig Walker : I guess it was ok.It was my first solo album and i wanted it to be very different to my last album with Archive..i think i achieved that.I'm really proud of some of the songs but probably with hindsight i would do it a little differently now..but art is all about moving forward and not looking back.
Rockoverdose : Really, whats inspired you to write music?
Craig Walker : Its an incredibly difficult question to answer and one i have been asking myself since i wrote my first song aged 12..i fell in love with songwriting immediately and still love it.These days books and movies and people would be the main inspiration for writing.
Rockoverdose : Could you define your major influences as regards artists? Which one, do you believe had a major impact to your career?
Craig Walker : Early Cure,Joy Division,The Smiths,PIL,Kraftwerk,Kate Bush,Neu amongst many many others have been a huge influence but i would say The Smiths were the biggest because the lyrics are as equally important as the music and that was and still is a revelation.
Rockoverdose : It is well known the "relationship" you have established with Greece and the Greek audience.How do you explain this?
Craig Walker : Yeah..i have been coming to Greece to play for 12 years now and its been a really great place for me.I guess i play music that resonates with Greek people and im really happy it does.
Rockoverdose : I guess that you've already know that Archive has a strong fan base in Greece , especially from the era that you've served as the lead singer. How do you feel about that ?
Craig Walker : Well its amazing to be in a bar/club in Greece and hear your songs playing.I did some great music with Archive and im still really proud of it.
Rockoverdose : You have worked in the past with various Greek artists such as Rosebleed and Transistor. There will be continuity with other Greek bands in the future?
Craig Walker : Yeah im working with Ink next..really good rock band who remind me of great bands like Alice in Chains.Hope there will be more in the future too!
