Italia 90 on RockOverdose: “We gave up planning a long time ago and we’re glad to have done so!”

ITALIA 90 have risen through London's DIY music circles and with their radical lyrics are scorching the socio-political reality. On Friday December 8th, they are coming to Athens for the first time to celebrate the 7 years of Syd Records at Arch Club Live Stage playing ... punk, maybe post-punk ... we will see!

Read below our short chat through which they may not reveal much as they speak more with their music and lyrics.

Italia 90 line up:
Les Miserable – φωνητικά
Unusual prices – κιθάρα
J Dangerous – ντραμς
Bobby Portrait – μπάσο

RockOverdose: This will be your first time in Greece. What have you prepared for this show of yours here? Do you have any expectations?

Italia 90: There are a lot of things for us to be excited about! We’re playing on Friday and will go back to England on Sunday, so we’re hoping to have a lot of time to see the city. When we tour, we always try to explore where we’re playing and Athens is somewhere we’re all looking forward to seeing. Let us know where we should go!

RockOverdose: Is your band’s name a statement somehow? Even your stage names must have their own story. Would you like to share their stories with us in order to know you better?

Italia 90: The band name is not a statement. It’s a familiar phrase in England and one that seems to stick in people’s heads. The stage names are hard to explain. J Dangerous is certainly not descriptive, nor is Les Miserable. Bobby Portrait is certainly very nice to look at. Our guitarist is DFCC – we won’t be able to explain this here.

RockOverdose: Being in a band is not easy. Did you ever though that your friendship may face difficulties if you “work” together and how do you deal with difficulties?

Italia 90: Luckily, this band is not our job, which helps. We don’t have to view this as something to pay our bills with, so we can enjoy it. We do still manage to have some quite good rows but tend to move on from them fairly quickly.

RockOverdose: How do you see yourselves in 10 years from now? Do you have a specific plan or you’re more of a going with the flow?

Italia 90: We gave up planning a long time ago and we’re glad to have done so!

RockOverdose: Which song of yours do you think is more underrated than others and why? Can you predict the success of a song while you make it?

Italia 90: We’re all keen on ‘Does He Dream?’, track 9 on our album. We wanted to put it out as a single but were persuaded to go for something more upbeat. It doesn’t necessarily have as a big a crescendo as some of our songs but we’re proud of it as a song that feels different but still sounds like us.

RockOverdose: Please close this interview with a message to the greek audience, using a lyric of yours or one of your favorite lyrics.

Italia 90:

Come all ye rolling minstrels
And together, we will try
To rouse the spirit of the earth
And move the rolling sky
