Kory Clarke (Warrior Soul, Trouble) interview @ Rock Overdose!

Rockoverdose.gr had the honour to talk with
Kory Clarke (Warrior Soul, Trouble, κ.α.).
Enjoy the interview!

Rockoverdose.gr: Κory, welcome to Rockoverdose.
Share with us about your electro/acoustic show in Athens, your experience.

Kory: It was a great performance, I’m very proud of it and it’s very nice to use a keyboard; it opens up such a different sound. It was so artistic and creative and I have a great keyboard player, Asteris Papastamatakis from Athens. Not only that, but my compadre from Athens, Yannis Vardas , who is an amazing Guitar player is now working on a new project with me. The other great Musicians on this show were Michael Kapilides on drums and Stathis Lianos on rhythm guitar. Fantastic guys to work with as well.

Rockoverdose.gr: Acoustic shows is something you do often or the Athens show is/was an exceptional one?

Kory: This show has been the only one so far like this but I do acoustic performances and ‘spoken word’ from time to time. I like Athens very much; it bleeds rebellion, so I decided to do it for free since I was in town with ‘TROUBLE’.

Rockoverdose.gr: Any other way(s) you re attached to Greece? Friends? Vacations? Read of (Literature, History, etc)?

Kory: No, but I wish I was. Greek people are wonderful.

Ya, The History of Kory Clarke trying to get on a plane after a day of drinking Ouzo at ‘the Crop’ (Kory’s American term for ‘The Acropolis’)! Not a great story …

Rockoverdose.gr: Latest song you wrote was about..

Kory: "Light your Bonfires” which is about the gathering of rebellion on a planetary scale.

Rockoverdose.gr:Are there any recording plans? With band or solo?

Kory: We just released Kory Clarke Opium Hotel II at the end of September and releasing my new solo electro/ acoustic “Light Your Bonfires” on “Guy Fawkes Day” November 5th 2012.
Warrior Soul’s “Rubicon” 4 song’s for download November 29th my birthday
Full release January 15th 2012
Trouble will release “The Dark Riff” sometime in March 2012
May 2012 will bring a new Kory Clarke solo record as well. Keep writing Boy...

Rockoverdose.gr: Which one of your songs you love best lyrically? And which one musically?

Kory: Possibly “Cities, Scenes and Thieves” and musically, possibly “Ghetto Nation”

Rockoverdose.gr: What holds the future for Warrior Soul?

Kory: Warrior Soul is always a wild card, but I am going to be going to America and give them a dose, possibly a Rock n roll Over dose LOL, of what I have been giving Europe for the past few years. We even just started a Group page on Facebook as there were so many requests for us to Tour in the USA. We are one of the most vibrant Live rock bands out there and we have the songs to pull off miracle shows.

Rockoverdose.gr: Being an acclaimed and – some would say – daring lyricist, would you like to name any of your favourite writers, poets or lyricists?

Kory: William Burrows, Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Johnny Rotten, Jimi Hendrix, Joey Ramone…

Rockoverdose.gr: Love songs and party songs everywhere. As a songwriter myself I wonder: In a world that’s in deep trouble these days, (crisis, etc), why aren’t there more songs with more sophisticated lyrics?

Kory: Because record companies, radio stations and all corporate media is controlled by a fascist shadow government worldwide.

Rockoverdose.gr: Rock n roll always had its revolutionary side. Is it now more conservative?

Kory: It’s become what hip hop is, a ‘beat your wife’, pretend you don’t take drugs, have the most sex with the lowest common denominator regime.

Rockoverdose.gr: And who’s to blame? The artists or the people?

Kory: BOTH

Rockoverdose.gr: Thank you very much, the last words are yours...

Kory: Please check out all the stuff I am working on: Warrior Soul, my Solo work and Trouble. Thank you so much for letting me speak freely.

For Rockoverdose.gr,
Nasos Kavathas
