One of the biggest festivals featured four amazing bands this year! Ensiferum, Turisas, Equilibrium, Suidakra and many other smaller guest appearances but equally remarkable, in my opinion!
Reaching the venue of Live Club, which was quite far from Milan I have to admit, most fans were already there. Needless to say that almost all were with one or two beers in their hands, laughing and taking pictures - you know how it is in concerts, usually! -
The administrator of Turisas Italia and me (Turisas GReece) had the chance to meet some ‘crazy’ Turisas fans and take pictures with them, discuss about the upcoming concert, the band, and it was pretty obvious how much excited they were all, including us of course!
However, -you can imagine- the agony and enthusiasm we all had before the concert started and the worrying of course, to run and catch a good position to the ‘rail’, when the doors opened.

So our time passed enjoyably and the moment we were all waiting for had finally come!
The doors opened at 18.00, the masses moving inside the club, totally excited, and the festival started with Frosttide at 18.30.
Frosttide is a Finnish melodic death / folk metal band, which was formed in 2009. Their first show was at Toukofest in 2010, and the band made the shared second place in the band competition. They released their first EP ‘Dawn Of Frost’ at the end of summer in 2010. One more EP was released in 2012 by the name ‘Our Journey’ and in 2013 their full-length album under the name ‘Awakening’.
I have to admit that those guys were totally ‘crazy’ on stage, very passionate and really good musicians! By all means, they made a perfect start for Heidenfest!
Intermission: Beers, videos, pictures.. and a guy who had not stopped laughing since before the concert had started..!

The concert continues with the amazing Suidakra at 19:15.
SuidAkrA is a Folk metal band from Germany, which was formed in 1994 by guitarist Arkadius Antonik and drummer Stefan Möller under the name Gloryfication. Later in the same year the band's name was changed to Suidakra (Arkadius spelled backwards).
The band has released 1 Demo by the name ‘Dawn’ in 1995 and 11 full-length albums with the newest one this year by the name ‘Eternal Defiance’. During their fourteen-year career, they have performed over 200 live shows for several European and Russian tours, as well as a North American tour.
By appearing on stage and starting the first track from their setlist, all of us begin to go a bit more ‘crazy’..!
All members had incredible energy which passed on us since the beginning. They had an excellent stage presence and they played awesome! Although their show lasted not as much as we would like, just 35 minutes, it was enough to get us really excited!
Intermission: More beers, more pictures, more excitement and that guy had simply become the ‘mascot’ of the club as he continued laughing and making all of us laugh with him!

Delayed for 15 to 20 minutes of the scheduled appearance (20:10), Equilibrium show up on stage!
Equilibrium is a German folk metal band, which was formed in 2001.
The band's music combines elements of folk and symphonic metal and their lyrical themes focus on Germanic tales and Germanic mythology. All of the lyrics are in German, as are most of the titles.
The band has released 1 Demo in 2003, 2 EP’s with the newest this year under the name ‘Waldschrein’ and 3 studio albums.
The band featured a different line-up. Guitarist René had to stay home and Arkadius from Suidakra took his place. However, this switch of musicians didn’t influence Equilibrium’s show, they played great as always.
Anyone who has seen this band live, can understand the pandemonium that followed when Robse started to sing!! –That was the moment when I told myself ‘Well now, keep strong!!’— Extreme pushing from behind, mosh pit, headbangings, whatever I say is non-comparable to that madness!
Personally, I admired Sandra a lot! Actually this girl, besides being beautiful, is really talented!
Their appearance lasted for less time,- as you can imagine-, about 45 minutes, and we were all complaining a bit, because we had not been able to see them as much as we would like!
However, for me, the moment I’d been waiting for a very long time had finally arrived..!
The next two bands were the reason I went to Milan for this festival. First for Turisas and of course for Ensiferum!
With many details and pictures, you will learn more about the appearances of these great bands in the second part of the review..!
