V. Καλησπέρα και καλώς ήρθατε στο rockoverdose.gr! Πώς είναι τα πράγματα για σένα και για τους Marduk, αυτό τον καιρό?
M. Όλα βαίνουν καλώς. Απασχολημένοι ως συνήθως. Μόλις φτάσαμε σπίτι μετά από μία μικρή περιοδεία σε Η.Π.Α. και Καναδά και επίσης το EP “Iron Dawn” εξαπέλυσε “επίθεση” στις ανυποψίαστες μάζες!! Επίσης, προβάρουμε για τα Ευρωπαϊκά Festivals και δουλεύουμε υλικό για το δωδέκατο album μας! Βαδίζουμε σταθερά…
v. Πήραμε μια εξαιρετική πρώτη γεύση για το πώς θα είναι το επερχόμενο album σας, με το τελευταίο “Iron Dawn” EP. Τι σχόλια έχουν ακουστεί μέχρι τώρα από τους οπαδούς σας?
M. Δεν γνωρίζω αν το EP είναι σε παρόμοιο ύφος με το επερχόμενο album. Ο χρόνος θα το δείξει αυτό. Συνεχώς εργαζόμαστε πάνω στο υλικό και εξαπολύουμε σκοτεινή ενέργεια. Μόνο ο χρόνος θα δείξει πιο θα είναι το τελικό αποτέλεσμα... Πάντως, μέχρι τώρα, το EP έχει τεράστια ανταπόκριση από οπαδούς και media. Και είμαι πολύ ικανοποιημένος με αυτό. Πιστεύω πως η μουσική και οι στίχοι έχουν όντως γίνει ένα ενιαίο σύνολο. Και οι ιστορίες που λέγονται (στους στίχους) βγαίνουν σε συνδυασμό με το μουσικό μπαράζ πυροβολικού που σου επιτίθεται.
V. Διανύετε μια περίοδο γεμάτη συναυλίες. Πες μας για την εμπειρία του να είσαι στην σκηνή και πιο ήταν το καλύτερο show για σένα και γιατί?
M. Όσο μπορούμε να παίζουμε live και να καταστούμε σαφές τα μηνύματα που προσπαθούμε να περάσουμε, είναι πολύ καλό για μένα. Είμαστε περήφανοι για το γεγονός πως με το “Wormwood” (σ.σ. κυκλοφόρησε το 2009) παίξαμε στα περισσότερα μέρη του κόσμου και που επίσης ήμασταν η πρώτη black metal μπάντα που έκανε full περιοδεία στην Ασία. Κάναμε 200 συναυλίες από την κυκλοφορία του “Wormwood” μέχρι τώρα. Φυσικά, με τόσα live shows, υπάρχουν καλές και κακές στιγμές. Αλλά εξαπλώσαμε το μήνυμά μας σαν δρεπάνι σε όλο τον κόσμο. Άσχετα αν ήταν το live σε ένα κλειστό club με 100 άτομα ή σε ένα festival μπροστά σε 20.000. Η πορεία συνεχίζεται…
V. Πώς θα περιέγραφες το επερχόμενο album σε σχέση με το “Wormwood”?
M. Δεν θα μπω σε συγκρίσεις. Ειδικά σε μια στιγμή που δεν έχουμε ηχογραφήσει ακόμα το νέο μας album. Αυτή την στιγμή, δουλεύουμε πάνω σε ένα τεράστιο album σε όλες του τις πτυχές, βάζοντας την ψυχή μας σε αυτό… Θα είναι σίγουρα κάτι που θα μείνει στην ιστορία (σ.σ. για την ακρίβεια, είπε: “It will for sure be a monument to come”). Δεν θα δώσω, όμως, καμία πληροφορία μέχρι να ολοκληρωθεί η ηχογράφησή του.
V. Αν ένας νεαρός σε έβλεπε στον δρόμο και σε ρώταγε: “Αγαπώ την Μουσική σας, μα, ποια είναι η θρησκεία σου, πού πιστεύεις?”, τι θα του απαντούσες?
M. Πιστεύω πως σε μια τέτοια περίπτωση, το μήνυμα είναι σαφές και στην Μουσική μας και στους στίχους. Απλά άσε το να σε αιχμαλωτίσει και θα σε ταξιδέψει.
V. Αν είχες την ευκαιρία να αλλάξεις ένα πράγμα στον κόσμο, τι θα ήταν?
M. Δεν θα ήθελες να ξέρεις… (γέλια)
V. Έχεις ακούσει κάποιο νέο album πρόσφατα, που σου άρεσε?
M. Εννοείτε, άλλωστε ακούω πολλά διαφορετικά είδη Μουσικής. Οτιδήποτε έχει να κάνει με Hard Rock, Metal, Κλασσική Μουσική και Industrial. Τώρα, κάποιο άλμπουμ που πραγματικά απόλαυσα, τώρα τελευταία, είναι βασικά κάποια παλιά κλασσικά βινύλια του Bach και του Wagner. Αυτό το είδος Μουσικής, ακούγεται καλύτερα σε βινύλιο. Επίσης, απολαμβάνω το νέο Necrophagia , όπως και το πιο πρόσφατο των Electric Wizard καθώς και πολλά άλλα (σ.σ. “Shitloads of more music!”).
V. Τι να περιμένουμε από σένα, στο μέλλον?
M. Αργότερα, φέτος, θα κυκλοφορήσει ένα box-set για την επέτειο των 20 χρόνων των Marduk με πολλά ενδιαφέροντα πράγματα. Και του χρόνου, το δωδέκατό μας album θα “σκεπάσει” τον κόσμο και μετά την κυκλοφορία του, θα αρχίσουμε πάλι την “σταυροφορία” μας, παγκόσμια!!
V. Καμιά πιθανότητα να σας δούμε Ελλάδα?
M. Φυσικά και θα επιστρέψουμε στην Ελλάδα! Περνάμε πολύ καλά όποτε ερχόμαστε! Θυμάμαι μέχρι σήμερα την πρώτη μας φορά που κάναμε live εκεί, το ’99. Είναι πάντα ευχάριστο για μας να επιστρέφουμε στην Ελλάδα, την χώρα που πρωτοπορεί στην σκηνή με πολύ καλές μπάντες, όπως οι Rotting Christ, οι Varathron και οι Necromantia. Πάντα υπάρχει φοβερό κοινό όταν είμαστε εκεί! Να περιμένετε την επιστροφή μας!!!

• How are things these days for you and Marduk?
* all well up here. Busy as usual. just got home form a shorter US/CAN tour and also just the iron dawn ep is being unleashed upon the unexpecting masses! Reharsig infor European festivals and working on material for our 12th fullenght album. So we are marching steadily..
• You offered us an excellent taste of how will be your upcoming album with you latest EP “Iron Dawn”. What was the criticism that you received from your fans;
*Dont know exaclty if the ep is in the same vein as the next album. Time shall tell about that. we are constantly working on material and unleashing dark energy. only time can tell what the end result will be. So far the ep has recived an tremendous respons by both fans and media. And Im very satistfied with it myself. i think the musdic and lyrics really become one. And the stories being told really come to life in combination with the musical artillery barrage that attacks you.
• Is a period full of live shows. Tell us about this experience being on stage and where was the best show for you and why?
*As long as we are able to perform and make our messag clear that works fine with me. proud of the fact that for the wromwood album we have reached most parts of the world and also the first black metal band to do afull tour of asia. We have done 200 shows since the release of wormwood. of course with so many shows you have you up and downs. But we have spread our messag like a scythe over the world. wheter it has benn at a club show in front of 100 people or a festival in front of 20 000. The march goes on...
• How would you describe us the upcoming album with the previous?
*I will not compare any of our recordings. especially since we still havent recorded the next album. We are working on a massive album in all aspects,putting our soul into it. It will for sure be a monument to come. I want make any details available un til the recording is completed.
• If a very young boy found you on the road and asked you “Hey I love your music but where do you believe anyway?” what will you answer him?
*For anyone in that situation i think the message is clear in both music and lyrics. just let it grasp you and it will take you on a journey.
• If you could change one thing in the world what would be this?
*You wouldnt like to know,ha,ha!!!!
*Sure im always listening to alot of diffrent music. Everyhting from old hardock,metal,classical music and alot of industrial music. Some albums that I really enjoyed lately is actually some real great old classical vinyls with bach and wagner. That kind of music sounds better on vinyl. I enjoy the new necophagia album and also the latest electric wizard album and shitloads of more music!
• Have you listened any new album these days that you like it?
*Sure im always listening to alot of diffrent music. Everyhting from old hardock,metal,classical music and alot of industrial music. Some albums that I really enjoyed lately is actually some real great old classical vinyls with bach and wagner. That kind of music sounds better on vinyl. I enjoy the new necophagia album and also the latest electric wizard album and shitloads of more music!
• What do we have to expect from you in the future?
*Of course we will be back in Greece. Always have had a stunnig time there. Remember when we did the first show there in 99 up to this day. For us its always great to be back in Greece,the country that pionnereed the scene with great acts like Rotting Christ,Varathron and Necromantia. alwasy fatastic crowd when we have been there. Await our return!!
• Any change to see you live in Greece?
