OBITUARY interview @ Rock Overdose

Rock Overdose's Antonis "Jey Key" Katsaros talked with Obituary's drummer Donald Tardy about their forthcoming lives in Greece and Cyprus, their new album and lots more. Enjoy the interview below:

Rock Overdose: First of all, I must say that  is a great honor to have the  chance to do this interview with you Donald!  Obituary are my childish heroes! So, how are you these days?

Donald Tardy: we are good, thank you for asking.

Rock OverdoseSo, you are going to release your 9th full length album soon. Do  we have any details about that? Title of the album or songs titles, where you will recording it, who will be the producer, etc?

Donald Tardy: We are writing the New Obituary album now we will release an EP this winter for a taste of the album. We will write thru the rest of the year, record and release the New Album in 2013.

Rock OverdoseHow different will be from your previous release “Darkest Day”?

Donald Tardy: We are very happy sticking with the Ob style and sound so we are focused on writing classic songs that our fans will love and that we will be proud to call Obituary.

Rock OverdoseIn a few days you will be in Greece and after in Cyprus. What “plans” you have for those concerts?

Donald Tardy: we plan to kick ass on stage and drink all of your beer.

Rock OverdoseI suppose that you will play songs from your whole carrier?

Donald Tardy: Yes we plan on playing old classics and newer stuff for sure. It is very challenging to incorporate songs from every album so we will put everything we can into our show to try and make everyone happy.

Rock OverdoseWhat’s your favorite Obituary song, and what’s the one that  when you play it live the fans are going totally crazy?

Donald Tardy: Slowly We Rot

Rock OverdoseYou’ve been part of the death metal scene in Florida since the early days. How would you evaluate the state of metal and death  metal today?

Donald Tardy: Yes the Florida Metal Scene was "sick" from the very early days. Still a great scene in Florida but like in most states just not as many people come to the shows. Florida is our home and still home of Death Metal and still Hot as Hell.

Rock OverdoseWhat about your side project with your brother, The Tardy Brothers? Is it going to continue to release albums, or it was a “thing” that you wanna do, and now is done?

Donald Tardy: Tardybros is a way for John and I to step outside the Death Metal box and have fun trying something different. Obituary is still our priority and Tardybros is just a fun project that we enjoy doing and will definitely release more Albums.

Rock OverdoseLast but not least, you have  spend years and years composing death metal songs. What is inspiring  you? Where does the passion come out from?

Donald Tardy: Death Metal drumming is in my blood and Obituary has been a part of our lives for close to 25 years now. It is what we do pretty well and we are having more fun together than ever before so the inspiration comes from with in our own brains.

Rock OverdoseI really  want to thank you for this! I can’t wait to see you performing live. Do  you want to tell anything else for our readers?

Donald Tardy: See you soon. Bring an extra pair of underware with you to the show because you ate gonna shit yourself when we hit the stage. Hang on to your Ass!!

Thank you for the support

Donald Tardy
