FINALLY!! A whole 4 years later , there’s a new album by Oh Hiroshima! If you say that you are a post-rock fan and haven’t heard of the Swedes , click right now on a new tab in your browser, type Oh Hiroshima – “In Silence We Yearn” , listen and enjoy this masterpiece from 2015 and then return here to read this review article about their new album.

It’s been a long time for us fans of Oh Hiroshima awaiting new music by them and definitely, the departing with guitarist and co-founder Leif Eliasson last July only made matters worse for the band and the fans. However , the band is fully ready now to release “Oscillation” on the 26th of the month. The album consists of 7 songs, one of which is the great single and only sample we’ve had for the album in a long time , the song “Darkroom Aesthetics”. In all honesty , when first heard the whole album , I felt that only that single was the most powerful element of the new release , something that disappointed me at first. But then I thought to myself “With 47’ runtime in total and a whole 6 songs more , there’s no way “Oscillation” is not hiding any surprises for me”.

So , I listened to it for a second (and third and fourth and fifth and so on) time and only then did the weaknesses and strengths of the album started to emerge .Let’s not forget that “Oscillation” had a really tough task to accomplish; it is the album right after “In Silence We Yearn” (in case it was not made clear before, it is a-ma-zing). Having set already so high standards , the Swedes had to face their own self and unfortunately , in my opinion, they failed. They failed because they didn’t manage to overcome their previous release . Don’t get me wrong , “Oscillation” is another great album by Oh Hiroshima however , it feels a little inferior to its predecessor .

The atmospheric and soft “Neu” marks the beginning of our Journey through “Oscillation” but , right after comes the “A Handful of Dust”, a song that screams Oh Hiroshima from miles away ! Excellent and trippy composition with a great climax , something that describes pretty well most of their songs. Next there’s the heavy at first “Simulacra” that then gets softer and milder , something like a “reverse climax” ! Third and fourth songs on the album are “Moderate Spectre” and –possibly the best song in the album- “Darkroom Aesthetics” , two songs that share many similarities and are both pretty good. “In Solar” is the pre-last song of the tracklist and the album concludes with the impressive ten-minute “Molnet” that climaxes the whole experience perfectly.

All in all , the band may have not overcome their own selves however, “Oscillation” manages to rise up to the expectations and is a really good album. It’s proof that the band keeps its standard high and wants to deliver the best music possible. Personally, I’m very satisfied with the result and the 4 years of waiting and expectation seem to be worth it now.

“Oscillation” is out by Napalm Records on the 26th of July, so mark your calendars post-rock fans !
