SEEK IRONY on Rock Overdose: “Seek Irony is about bringing together elements of Heavy Rock & Electronica Dance music to form one sound”

We are very happy to present you the interview that Seek Irony, a Tech 'N' Roll band, gave to Rock Overdose and Sotirelis Konstantinos. The band talked about their debut album, which is called "Tech 'N' Roll", their cooperation with UDR Records and the combination of the Hard Rock music with the Electronica Dance music. Enjoy!

Rock Overdose: Hello, welcome to Rock Overdose. How it’s going on the band’s side these days?

Seek Irony: Hey! Thanks for having us! Things are going great! Excited for the worldwide release of “Tech 'N' Roll”.
Rock Overdose: Your debut album, Tech 'N’ Roll, initially was released the previous year, but you signed with UDR and it’s going to be released on 30th of September. So, how did this came up?

Seek Irony: We initially released Tech N’ Roll independently at the beginning of 2015, before we got signed. We had a sold out cdrelease show here in Austin, TX and following that we also had packed shows in several other cities in Texas to celebrate the release. Later we also went on tour in several other states to support the release as well. Following that independent release, UDR came to see us play live at SXSW 2015 and they loved our show. That’s when the relationship with the label actually started. A few month later we got our first record deal offer from UDR and we were negotiating the terms of that record deal back and forth. Then, in January 2016, we won the award for ‘Best Album of the Year in North America” in the unsigned category at The NAIRMA awards at NAMM 2016 and the label finally offered us a record deal with better terms like we were hoping for.

Rock Overdose: How do you feel about this deal and about your album?

Seek Irony: Our manager, Todd Singerman, orchestrated this deal from the beginning, he was the one who told UDR to check us out live at SXSW. Being the manager for Motorhead, he has a long time relationship with UDR and based on that relationship we knew UDR would be a good home for us. Even during the negotiations phase, we knew we were going to figure it out one way or the other because both sides, we and UDR, really wanted to make this deal happen. As for the album, I’ll let other people pass their judgement on the music . Βut what I can tell you is that this album means a lot to us, it’s our first big statement to the world, we’ve been working on it for years, developing and molding it, we’ve taken huge risks with our personal lives, crossed the Atlantic ocean from Israel to the the United States to give it a chance to be distributed and promoted worldwide, and it’s amazing to finally see it happen.

Rock Overdose: What’s the feedback from the album so far?

Seek Irony: So far it’s been great! As an artist, the main thing one can only hope for is to succeed in developing your own original sound and to inspire other artists through your music. That’s what great artists have done for me growing up and it would be a great honor to forward that favor towards other young aspiring artists in the future. Seek Irony is about bringing together elements of Heavy Rock and Electronica Dance music to form one sound that is unique to Seek Irony. So far, on the large side of our album’s reviews, it seems like Tech N Roll is coming across to the fans and is being appreciated for creating something special and unique. That’s the most we can hope for.

Rock Overdose: How did the idea of the electronic parts came up?

Seek Irony: Growing up in Europe (Italy, Germany, France) my brother and I were very influenced by American Hard Rock and Metal. Later when we moved back to Israel, since Tel Aviv was such a big EDM capital, we became very influenced by Electronica Dance music. Israeli electronica artists like Infected Mushroom have influenced us to love Electronica music too. So while we were rocking out, we were also going to rave parties and we always felt like we wanted to combine both worlds of sounds and cultures together. We fell in love with bands like Prodigy, Daft Punk, Chemical bros., Pendulum, Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, who all form some kind of combination between Rock and Electronica in their own ways. It was just natural for us to follow in these artists’ footsteps.

Rock Overdose: Was it difficult to combine these kinds of music?

Seek Irony: When we started out it was very difficult, even technically it was hard, because computers weren’t as strong as they are today and to get really good sounds you had to use very expensive analog gear and create everything yourself from scratch. Today technology is more accessible to everyone and there are so many banks of samples out there. To combine the two worlds together, we had to learn to master both worlds of sound engineering/producing music in the box and mastering our musical instruments plus songwriting. With all those years of experience, today it’s much easier and it comes very natural to us.

Rock Overdose: You have a very unique style. Which bands have influenced you?

Seek Irony: Thank you! That’s basically the greatest compliment you could ever give us!
The list would be tooooo long! But in short, we grew up on the typical Hard Rock/Metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy, Pantera, etc… Then we progressed to more progressive stuff like Dream Theater, then to Faith No More, Tool, System of a Down, Sevendust, Rob Zombie, Rammstein, Infected Mushroom ect… then to Muse, Prodigy, Pendulum, Skrillex, Deadmau5, The Qemists, Modestep ect. and quite a lot of other influences in between.
Rock Overdose: Do you have any plans for a new record?

Seek Irony: We’re already writing and recording our next record.

Rock Overdose: Are there any touring plans so as to promote the album?

Seek Irony: There are things in the works but nothing that I can talk about just yet.

Rock Overdose: What are your dreams, goals and expectations Seek Irony?

Seek Irony: Lyrics wise our goal is to connect with people, challenge them to question things, find the irony because that’s where the truth lies, between the lines.
Music wise our goal is to inspire people to love music, think outside the box and be true to the artists they really are.

Rock Overdose: Thank you very much for the interview. The last words are yours.

Seek Irony: Thank you guys! I just want to give a shout out to Phil Anderson from Powersound Studios in Edmonton, Canada who mixed our album and to Maor Appelbaum from LA, California, US who mastered our album. Both did a tremendous job and I’d like to thank them for helping us make a great record. I also want to give a shout out to our fans in Greece! Hopefully we’ll get a chance to come play for you guys soon. Until then, Tech N Roll!
