SEPTICFLESH: “The Great Mass Over Europe” tour (Part 2) live report

After an amazing beginning with the 2 previous shows, we are crossing Italy and France for our next station, Montepellier. Throughout the last French tour, the band passed very close to nearby Marseille, and expectations were very high. Let’s not forget, that France is a country that really loves Septicflesh and their fans are always ready for the band. This is very logical, if you consider the fact, that the band was signed in French labels in all the years of their existence. Expectations are met. This club is considered to be one of the smallest in the whole tour, so it shouldn’t be hard to be a sold out gig. Officially it never happened, but to happen, it should mean, that the people should see the show from the garden or the toilets. The crowd was almost delirious at times, following the band’s beat. At the end of the night we were squeezing the sweat out of our t-shirts being totally satisfied. We packed as fast as we could for the next long destination, Madrid.

Madrid had me a bit worried. The venue was changed just before the gig. We were to play at Sala Heineken, a venue familiar from the last Amon Amarth tour and with a big crowd capacity. Amon Amarth had it sold out, but we were not expecting something like that. Nevertheless, despite the crisis in Spain also, Sala Heineken’s hall was filled with people, full prepared to give it all. The people was shouting for an encore after “Persepolis” was over and the band responded finishing the people with “Anubis” and “Five Pointed Star”. Next stop, Barcelona.

We arrived in Barcelona in the morning with the sun straight up. A nice chance for a little walk in the city. We even met a protest group against the government. Same problems under the same sky. After the walk we returned to Salamandra, a pretty big venue and we waited for the gig. Again this time, despite the small ticket pre-selling, people showed at the box office having the result for the venue to seem filled up, enough to have a nice crowded arena and a nice show and this is exactly what happened. The Spanish crowd, did not have the chance to listen to what they really wanted throughout the band’s 30 minute set at the Amon Amarth tour, so now they got what they really wanted. An extremely hot crowd, they were creating a nice panic at times and other times they were speechless from what they were listening, especially in songs like “The Great Mass Of Death”. The end of the night, found the band, the crowd and the promoters very satisfied and after the necessary photo shooting and signing we got in the tour bus for the next stop, Geneva.
