SEPTICFLESH: “The Great Mass Over Europe” tour (Part 3) live report

Looking out of my bunker’s window in the tourbus, I already see the lake of Geneva. The expectations for tonight’s show, are quite optimistic. Even though Switzerland is a kind of lusty desire, but not always reached for every band, I am very optimistic for tonight. Let’s not forget that it is a French part of Switzerland and every place where people speaks French, Septicflesh are popular. Expectations are met once more! L’ Usine is filled by people that came even from nearby Lausanne (where the band had played also during the Amon Amarth tour). A very strong show by the band and as Seth keeps saying, wherever French are spoken, it’s like home for Septicflesh. Fotis is in a great mood and during “Persepolis”, brings Nick Vell from Descending on stage, to play together the marching part of the song, which most of the times leads to a Wall Of Death, just like tonight. A full venue, a strong show and everyone’s happy. Next stop, Luynes.

We are reaching sunny Luynes. No one is nervous for tonight. In French, Septicflesh are playing at home. Tonight’s show is sold out. Looking at the – still – empty venue, I am trying to imagine it full and things went just like I thought! A place completely full of people and the heat reaching very high temperatures. Tonight is a very important gig, as a team from Season Of Mist (tha band’s label) will be attending the show. Septicflesh, with their brutal appearance, sent their fans to heaven for almost an hour and a half and for one more time they honored their fame and the trust that is shown to them by the label. After a backstage meeting between the band and the label’s team for the future plans (which are very very good), we loaded our bodies on the tourbus and headed towards Colmar.

Second time at Colmar after the 2011 French tour. The renovated venue is much bigger and this is good, because the band’s fame is bigger also. The crowd at Colmar, supported them once more and people filled the club. Even though the people of Colmar are more closed to themselves because of their German neighbors, tonight, almost from the first sounds of “Vampire From Nazareth”, they showd us that they came here to make this gig an interactive experience. Responding to the band’s energy, they did what everybody does at a nice gig. Next stop, Lyon.

Last time at Lyon, was again during the French tour in 2011. I remember that night, when the club was almost brought down. This time, the band has to fill an even bigger venue, called CCO and they made it. People was there early and soon the place was full of people. The band was in a great mood and when that happens, it’s not hard for Seth to bring the people down to it. Fotis tortured the drum kit a lot of times, and he often called people to join with war cries and clapping. At “Persepolis” there was an amazing Wall Of Death and at the end, a girl came to me holding a dread from Christos’ hair (probably fell due to headbanging), asking me to have it signed by him. The  console, which was at the center of the club with bars was moving back and forth, by the moshing of the crowd. Seth told for a millionth time how much the band loves France and they departed within the clapping and the voices asking for a second encore…
