SEPTICFLESH: “The Great Mass Over Europe” tour (Part 6) live report

Poland is among a lot of important places for this tour. Septicflesh have a strong fanbase there on one hand, but on the other they had the misfortune of cancelling 2 or 3 gigs there if I’m not mistaken. Even though the cancellations were not because of the band’s fault, there was always some tense in the air along with disappointment, that turned to a long “lust” for the appearance of the band on Polish soil. The fact the Septicflesh managed to play after all in Poland, the small set list and the early time of day that they played, was something that didn’t let their fans enjoy the show but now the time has come. Progresja opened it’s doors and the people was slowly filling it and they were here to avenge those times. From the start until the end of the setlist, even during the mid tempo “Virtues Of The Beast”, hell broke loose. Seth was encouraging the crowd to go insane and this is exactly what happened. Sepicflesh were at their peak of their performance, with Psychon headbanging like hell, Chris enriching the sound with dread hitting merciless on the guitar and Fotis that made each hit on the drums seem like a punch in the stomach. During his drum solo, the people was following cheering and screaming in every pause. After the massacre at “Persepolis”, the band is retiring to catch some breaths, while the crowd didn’t stop asking for more. It was then that I felt a hand on my shoulder and someone told me “good job buddy”. It was Nergal, who was watching the show from the back. During some very fast greetings, he managed to tell me that the band has become an uncontrollable beast, throughout all their gigs. Right then, Septicflesh came back on stage, so we postponed our chat for later at backstage. The band ends the gig in war cries and applauding. Seth is deeply moved and after he is ok from the amok he goes through every time he is on stage, promises that they will be back with a new album and bows. At backstage, a smiling Nergal is already waiting for us. He is looking strong from the last time we seen him, due to his cancer problem. He is a beast of courage and determination. The subject turns to the new Behemoth album. I didn’t want to know. From what he said, it will be different and extreme. Imagine that an album written from someone who defeated death himself, it can only be extreme in emotions. The rest of the night goes like that and and at the end we packed, ready to go to Wroclaw.

We arrived at Wroclaw with some delay. The only roads that could take us there, go under bridges with max height at 3,5 meters, something that was difficult for the 4 meter tall tourbus. Of course there was nothing that could go wrong at this tour, especially on Romanian ground. After some understandings and some gps’s on fire, we arrived outside the club and we are running to prepare the stage for tonight. The club was crowded by people, during this first ever band’s appearance at this town. Informed as they were for yesterday’s show, it was as if they tried to prove that they were a better crowd than the one in Warsaw. Even though they were a little numb during the evening, as long as Septicflesh set foot on stage, there was an instant switch on. Once more, the band rewarded the Polish crowd. The Behemoth family was once more here for us. Their tech crue helped us, as they had some great times with us in the past. Some relaxed time and some drinks were needed, before we go on for Prague.
