Sven Dirkschneider (U.D.O.) on RockOverdose: The best advice my father UDO gave me is to stay true to myself and don’t let anybody change this!

Sven Dirkschneider drummer, son of legendary Udo Dirkschneider and the youngest member of his solo band U.D.O. had a chat with RockOverdose and Zisis Petkanas.

Read below his interesting answers to our questions.

RockOverdose: How did the pandemic affect your plans during this period?

Sven Dirkschneider: A lot, actually. We had to postpone several tours… Russia, South America, USA & Canada. All these tours were planned for 2020… Let’s hope that we can start touring again soon.

RockOverdose: Can you tell us a few things about the album "We Are One"?

Sven Dirkschneider: Such a special Album for us, for sure. Lot’s of sensible lyrics and topics. We discovered new music genres and were able to fit them into a regular U.D.O. song-setting. Pretty epic.

RockOverdose: How was your experience working with the official Concert Band of the German Armed Forces?

Sven Dirkschneider: Great experience! We had such a lot of fun writing and recording this album. We came together with the Orchestra at Wacken 2015 for the first time. This gig was something indescribable. The atmosphere and energy on stage was amazing. The audience loved it. We played another gig together in 2018, in Elspe Germany. 3500 people attended that show. After the concert we sat together and the idea for the album was born.

RockOverdose: How is working together with your father?

Sven Dirkschneider: We both love it. It’s great fun! Nowadays we even write all the lyrics together and are working really close together in the studio to create new vocal lines.

RockOverdose: What is the best advice he gave  you and what is that you admire more on him?

Sven Dirkschneider: Stay the way you are. Always. Stay true to yourself and don’t let anybody change this.

RockOverdose: Do you have any favorite song or album from your fathers career that means a lot to you?

Sven Dirkschneider: That’s probably ‚Metal Heart‘. I’ve always loved this song. As soon as the melody starts i get goosebumps.

RockOverdose: Would you like to leave a message to the readers of Rock Overdose?

Sven Dirkschneider: Hope you’re all staying healthy and well. Let’s hope that we can enjoy live concerts very soon again and celebrate Heavy Metal Music!

RockOverdose: Thank you so much!

Sven Dirkschneider: You’re welcome.
