THE GLORY on Rock Overdose: “We were being arrested and banged up countless times”

Formed in 1986 and after releasing two albums, The Glory called it off only to make their come back again after 20 whole years. With the release of their single “Nobody's War” and the news about their reunion, Rock Overdose interviewed two of their original members, Timo and Tealeaf, to check what happened in the past and what's coming up next for the UK punk rock band.

Rockoverdose.gr: Hello guys, welcome to Rock Overdose! So how are you coping with your comeback?

Timo:  We‘ve had a few setbacks but are slowly, but surely getting there at last.

Rockoverdose.gr: “The Best of the Glory” is celebrating this event!

Timo: We thought we had better get something out there quick. So that the people that had not heard of The Glory before could get a shot of some of our previous material. Before we release some of our new tracks.

Tealeaf: The album is being released on the LAD Publishing & Records label, and also “Nobody’s War” and “Where Were You” are going on a compilation CD called “Music To Bleed To Vol 3" on Infested Records.

Rockoverdose.gr: Are you preparing a new album too?

Timo: Yes, we are busy writing as we speak. The new album will be a very old school Punk & Oi! mix, that we feel is a sound a lot of current bands are losing sight of.

Tealeaf: Yes we got loads of material between us, so the next album should be even better. I can’t wait to get back into the studio.

Rockoverdose.gr: The single “Nobody's War” was released some months ago, what's your feedback? Heard it's doing well on the US radio.

Timo: It’s doing very well. Getting a lot of air play. One of our oldest and most popular songs. Hence the choice.

Tealeaf: Actually it has surprised me just how well it is doing.

Rockoverdose.gr: How is it working all together again after so many years?

Timo: Obviously it’s harder now than in the old days, as we all work and run separate businesses. Finding the time to write and actually get a day when we are all able to rehearse is a mission in itself.

Rockoverdose.gr: What happened in 1990 and you called it off?

Timo: We had had a lot of trouble at gigs in the old days. Fighting, riots, etc and this was at every gig. Being arrested and banged up countless times. We thought enough is enough and decided to disband.

Rockoverdose.gr: Were you thinking of what could have been done all this time? Did you keep contact?

Timo: In those days, what could you do? That was a way of life back then. We all ended up going our separate ways. We all kept in touch over the years whenever we could. All playing in various other bands over the last 20 years.

Tealeaf: I was over in Cyprus for many years playing in rock bands, but now I am back to my roots.

Rockoverdose.gr: How did you make that decision of forming back The Glory and go on tour?

Timo: It was always going to happen, just a case of when. Timo and Magee had been talking about it for years. We sorted the venues out, hired a van, had 3 nights practicing the set. Then off we went. After 20 or more years. We still sounded the bollox.

Rockoverdose.gr: Is it weird that Magit is not a part of the line up anymore?

Timo: It is so strange to not have him in the line up, as he was a great guitarist and helped us create our sound. But when you live 5,000 miles away, it’s hard to get to practice each week. So, as the other 3 members all live in Leicester, it was obvious to go forward we needed someone local. I tell you this though. He is one hard motherfucker to replace.

Tealeaf: It’s a shame really it would be great for all of us to get back together.

Rockoverdose.gr: So you're here to stay, what should we be expecting in the future?

Timo: We are definitely going to get a new album out eventually. When we think the songs are good enough. Then we will be doing some of the big festivals. To get our new sound out there again

Rockoverdose.gr: Thank you very much for your time, good luck to your new start! Is there anything you would like to add?

Timo: Thanks for interviewing us.

Tealeaf: Yeah cheers for this opportunity. Also look out for us at a festival near you very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
