Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): “I always give 100%!”

After 45 years on the road, The Exploited still declare NOT DEAD!

Few hours before theirs shows in Greece - Zisis Petkanas of Rockoverdose.gr had a short chat with the iconic punk rocker Wattie Buchan

Read below our interesting chat.

PUNK'S NOT DEAD!

RockOverdose: Hi Wattie and welcome to RockOverdose! How are you?

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): I'm ok! Thank you very much! Glad to be here!

RockOverdose: You must be very happy visiting Greece again!

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited):Yes, it's been a long time since we've been here. You're the craziest people in a good way, the craziest punks!

RockOverdose: How punk has evolved through the decades? Do you think past and present punk has any elements in common?

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): Well, in the past it was more violent, all the gigs were violent, but over the years it graduated, it opened to different punk styles but what we do is working class punk! Exploited didn't changed, we're still the same!

RockOverdose: Any memories from the recordings of your first album?

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): We did it in three days. We were very excited to do it although there are so many mistakes and we could make it better. But we were so happy to have the chance to record.

RockOverdose: Dealing with some health issues is very tough but we know that you always give your best up there singing no matter what. Were there momments that you thought it's time to stop?

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): Yeah, two years ago I thought I should stop! I've been old! Also six weeks ago I was in hospital for 5 days and in the last couple of years I've been thinking that I should really cancel the tours to see if I'd feel better but I'm over here and I'll do my best! If I can't do my 100%, then I'll quit!  If I collapse on stage or have a heart attack I'd have to cancel all the gigs in the future.  Now I feel not the best, but good enough to do gigs! Music gives me more life and energy and that's what I love the most! When I see people love my music, it's a privilege you can't buy! I don't do this because of money, I do this because I love it!

RockOverdose: Any plans for a new release?

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): It is what it is for the last 20 years! So many problems, covid, pressure, 4 different quitar players, now we got a new drummer cause my brother just quit ...

RockOverdose:What's your message to your loyal fans out there?

Wattie Buchan (The Exploited): It's gonna be a great night! I always give 100% and hope people appreciate that.

Thank you very much!
