EVALINE interview on Rock Overdose!

Their song "There-There" was chosen for the UEFA 2012 tv ad campaign making Evaline famous around the globe. Some days ago we presented you yet another song that is included in their new cd WOVEN MATERIAL titled "Picking it up". Evaline have engaged in the world with live appearances alongside major names such as Placebo, Deftones, Neon Trees, Dredg, Young guns, Paper Torgues, and supported Bush in their European tour in November 2011. The Californian band is visiting our country next October for one and only gig at Gagarin 205. We had a little chat with their charming frontman, Richard Perry, just before their arrival. Meet Evaline on Rock Overdose!

Rockoverdose.gr: Hello Richard, welcome to Rock Overdose once again! Things are going pretty well for you lately, how do you feel about it?

Richard: Life has been crazy to the extent that I haven't even had a chance to think about how I feel. It’s all good though.

Rockoverdose.gr: Seeing you guys back in the days you were jamming in a garage, would you imagine what would follow?

Richard: I could never have foreseen all of this. We met at school and as kids we had the desire to get somewhere with music and to travel the world. All the steps to make this happen seemed to be a matter of chance, so we just kept focusing on writing music and having a good time, sometimes too good of a time.

Rockoverdose.gr: You played in Philippines for a cause against trafficking and exploitation of the human body. What are your thoughts on this?

Richard: We were very fortunate to be able to help raise awareness about human trafficking. It's happening all around the world. (For more info go to mtvexit.org) We also played a show for the same cause this year in San Francisco, a Home of the Slave benefit gig.

Rockoverdose.gr: So, what's your feedback from Europe since Euro 2012? “There There” is a hit!

Richard: Let's just say none of us have to dine alone… Also we all love sports so we were glad to be a part of Euro 2012.

Rockoverdose.gr: You're coming to visit us finally too in October! What's the first thing you will do stepping your foot in Greece?

Richard: When traveling I'm always taking photos (which can be seen at perryrhodes.com) so getting lost in the city is going to happen. Fact.

I also can't wait to consume as much Greek cuisine as my body can handle, so if you or anyone out there thinks you know of the best places to eat please find me online and share your wisedom.

Rockoverdose.gr: Ok then, that's an open invitation! How do you survive during a tour? And how does it feel to play in different parts of the world?

Richard: How do I survive? hmm… sometimes I don't. Things can turn insane real fast and it's easy to get swept up in all the excitement.  When you're in a foreign country, in a new city surrounded by a new set of beautiful faces pulling you down a street you've never seen before, who wouldn't want to live this way?

Rockoverdose.gr: It's all “Sex, drugs & Rock 'n' Roll” or you prefer to go more humble?

Richard: This life is whatever you feel like making it. I've lived the most humbling of moments followed by the most extravagant experiences. I think I like a healthy balance of both.

Rockoverdose.gr: How is it sharing the stage with such great bands as you did in the last years?

Richard: It's an honor to play with artists you enjoy and respect such as Portishead, Elbow, Brighteyes, etc. etc. Now if only we can go back in time to open for Sam Cooke, Joy Division and Nirvana that would be great!

Rockoverdose.gr: That's for sure! Recently you uploaded a song you didn't put in the album. What other surprises are you keeping for us?

Richard: Now if I told you that wouldn't make it much of a surprise now would it? What I can say is we will be leaking out some sneak peeks into the new record soon.

Rockoverdose.gr: Would you give us a glimpse of album #2?

Richard: Well things have changed a bit. I've lived more in one year than I have in my entire life, that changes the way you see things I suppose.

I'm sure we all feel that way and our writing has been reflecting that.

Rockoverdose.gr: Would you make any “sacrifices” in terms of the music you fancy creating, so as to please the masses?

Richard: When you have no idea what you want you can't be sure what you're sacrificing. We are never really sure what we want, we just write, and what comes out, comes out. With time we begin to see our direction unfolding before us, I'm sure that shapes how we write to some degree but when it comes down to it, if all six of us can stand an idea then someone's bound to like it.

Rockoverdose.gr: Last but not least, what should the Greek audience expect to see at Gagarin 205?  Heard about you getting crazy with microphones and stands on stage...!

Richard: Me? crazy? I'm always a perfect gentleman…  as for Gagarin 205, come ready to have fun and we're all going to have a real good time.

Rockoverdose.gr: Thank you very much for the nice talk we had Richard, looking forward to your show! Would you like to add something?

Richard: Thanks for taking the time to interview us. And I want to thank all our fans out there who have been supporting what we do, and enjoying our music. Lets make the time we share in Greece a moment we will never forget.
